Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

One of his main appeals at Colorado was his ability to get all the way to the rim off the dribble and finish with touch. That isn't translating to the NBA where the defenders are bigger and there's real rim protection. He's trying to compensate by taking floaters from about 5 - 8 feet out, with mixed results.

One thing he can do is get good at pulling up and shooting jumpers from the mid-range. He did that once or twice tonight. But again, there needs to be a physical maturation process for him to really fit in the league, and it's hard to be 100% confident that it'll happen.

We cant just cherry pick the best player who was picked after him and cry about it. McCain was mocked top 10 by literally no one.

Five guys that were top 10 in some mocks who were picked after Cody are Matas, Knecht, Topic, Dilly and Carter.

Why did we pass on Matas Buzelis again? His numbers haven't been eye popping yet but he's starting to show some signs of being a legit NBA player. Bulls are ready to dump Patrick Williams and give his spot to Buzelis.

Let's face it, for a rebuilding team it's a disaster to pick a bust like Cody at #10. It simply can't happen. Total failure by Ainge & co and it needs to be said.

Now, I get that sometimes you gamble on a flawed but high ceiling prospect... but Cody was never that. He didn't show tantalizing flashes of NBA potential. He was an unathletic, low motor kid with a brother in the NBA.

If this is where we're at as far as talent evaluation, I don't know what to say.

The only thing more depressing than watching Cody in the Gleage is reading the JazzFanz comments on his performance. I highly recommend just waiting until when (If) he has a good game and watch the highlights.

He looks like he is playing to not get hurt. He also looks like playing basketball is painful, like it brings him no joy. I'm guessing his confidence has to be at an all time low. This is not good right now.

I really wonder if OKC got our pick if they would have taken Cody. Would have been awkward to pass on one of your best players brothers.

The Jazz have never drafted a complete bust (which I will define as struggling to get a 2nd contract or getting no minutes on his 2nd contract) in the lottery. Will Hendricks or Williams be the first?

Exum/Kanter werent great but they had long careers and ended up being viable role players. Same with Burks/Brewer. Lyles/Humphries to a lesser extent.

I believe both he and Sexton are playing with broken fingers on their non shooting hands. That might explain his aversion to contact at the moment.

Some dude dropped 52 last night for the Memphis JVs in the GLeague last night. He was a late 2nd round pick from UConn a 6'5" two guard.

To be fair, Bronny is definitely worse, but damn, he has been bad.
Nepotism at it's finest.

I wonder how high Cody would've gotten drafted if Jalen wasn't playing so well in OKC. Wasn't expecting him to be a world beater as a rookie but the lack of motor is a real concern.

Right now my money is on Flip being the best of the recent Ainge draftees and he was picked in the 2nd round.

Luther Wright and Quincy Lewis, Morris Almond, Curtis Borchard, and Kirk Snyder all come to mind. Lol

Wow, what a waste of a pick top 10 no less
And for the Jazz to tank their asses off to get it. And that the cost of that tanking means that the Jazz are kinda forced to keep tanking through ‘26 or lose better odds of landing a good player in other drafts (‘25 >>> ‘24, Jazz essentially lose the right to get the ‘26 super swap with Cleveland and Minnesota).

Remember when Cody “fell” to the Jazz and the Jazz ran to the podium? Lol, how can these professionals be so bad at this?

What a ****ing debacle. Strap in for two years of tanking and say good bye to Lauri.
