Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

I don't have s strong opinion either way, but have seen it mentioned. I don't think anyone is talking about the whole season, but for at least a couple of weeks.

I can see it both ways which might make for an interesting discussion topic.

Not sure but he seems to have shown enough to stay on the roster
Maybe dial his minutes down a little till he gets better
Less NBA minutes is better than going to G-League

Generally I think if your team has minutes for you, you should play in the NBA.
If you keep failing because you're in WAY over your head, you're only learning to fail.

Right now Cody isn't an NBA player. Someone like Flip is so far ahead of him, it's laughable. And Flip isn't exactly great yet either.

The G-League sucks *** and isn't a great place to learn anything either, though.

The main problem is that Cody came out too early and he may not even have NBA talent.

I don't care because I don't want wins but probably would help him

He’s not physically ready to make plays in the NBA. Last year, Taylor was in the same boat and seemed to benefit from his Gleague reps. Cody’s the type of guy who should get worked in after the All Star break and be brought along slowly.

If the Jazz weren’t tanking, I think Cody would be getting benched like he was in the 4th quarter last night, and his lack of minutes would lead him to the Gleague. More importantly, he needs to be working with trainers and coaches full time. He’s got a lot of work to do.

Some guys come into the league ready to contribute right away. Some don’t.

Cody needs to lift weights, run sprints, work on finishing strong at the rim, and rep out some handling/scoring scenarios. I’m not sure how much of that he can do if he’s standing around with the varsity team.

Maybe the idea is to throw him in the deep end and let him see what it’s like as a starting point. Then they can give him a training regimen.

The main thing that I think the Gleage is good for is giving guys reps to learn the system and gaining confidence. It doesn't feel like Cody is struggling to learn the system, and I don't think his main issue right now is confidence. I think he is getting coached on his jumper and just needs lots of game reps to get it right. He can be less visible in the Gleage, but since we aren't trying to win, we can give him lots of reps with the Jazz as well.

The main thing with keeping him on the Jazz is that he is already a good defender and will be best served on that end by the opportunities to guard the elite offensive players in the NBA. I think I'm leaning, keep him on the Jazz.

He needs nba minutes. We need to expand his role. What’s the worst that happens? We lose? GREAT!

Flip can get some minutes with Lauri maybe out and should take the the Eubanks minutes. Hell shuffle things a bit so Patty doesn’t get minutes and Flip gets some. Let Cody fail us forward!

Either way has it's merits..

Hendricks went to the G League last year after being the #9 pick in a stronger draft. He looked ready to make a jump this season before the injury. No telling if the G League played into that at all or if it was his work in the weight room.

OTOH Jazz have alot less depth after trading Tecc/Ochai and losing Taylor for the season so maybe he gets enough reps sticking with the main club. Regardless he doesn't appear physically ready to be playing in the NBA yet.

The physically ready part isn't going to happen during the season, that's probably a few years away unfortunately. That leaves his best chance at being an offensive contributor at hitting jump shots, which are currently a disaster. If it helps his confidence and he gets more reps, then maybe the Gleage is a good idea.

Cody is so young that, like our other young guys, we don’t know yet what he’ll be in a few years. I think he should stay and keep doing what he’s been doing - learning the ropes.
