2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Why would Sexton re-sign here, the team doesn't seem to like him very much and has spent his entire prime trying to intentionally throw games, lol. Why would they pay him more than other teams?

Sexton and Markkanen are the most infamous losers in the NBA currently in terms of just how bad their overall win-loss record is for their career and I'm sure Sexton is pretty sick of it at least.
They like him enough to keep him. You seem to be contradicting yourself if you are saying they wont dump but also dont like him.

Because we would probably pay him more than he would get in free agency.

Why would we pay him more than other teams? Like, literally what is the reason why?

Why would a tanking team with horrible defense with a million small guards want to add a near end of his prime 6'1" gunner guard who is a bottom 10 defender in the league?

There's teams that can hide Sexton on defense and use his scoring and the Jazz are not even close to one of those teams.

Intersting that this year Ainge didnt really try to force and move the needle. Last two seasons its clear he gutted some parts of the roster and not all of them were "great value moves".... but this time he didnt do that.

I`m not sure it would have to be that big. If we offered him the same deal he is on now, I doubt anyone would match or top that in free agency.

What is the value of doing that for the Jazz as opposed to using the money to take in salary dumps?

It's just very hard to think of a fit as bad as Utah for Sexton. Sexton needs to be surrounded by great defenders and big ball handlers. The Jazz are horrible at defense and dribbling.

Why did Obi Toppin get more than the MLE from the Pacers? Teams tend to pay their own players more than anyone else would.

As for why, I think Sexton would be excellent coming off the bench for a good team. If we can get him on a long term deal through his prime for 10% of the cap, I would absolutely like that.

Do you know what the Jazz will look like a year from now? Do you know what the market is in 2026? Do you know what contract other teams will offer Sexton?

This feels like trying to claim the future is unknowable to justify decision paralysis. The Jazz didn't trade Lauri at the 2024 deadline because, well, maybe Luka would demand a trade to the Jazz or Paul George would sign here... And now Lauri's value is a tiny fraction of what it was 12 months ago. The most likely outcome for this team is five more years of tanking. There's some shot they turn it around next year, but the probability is super low.
