Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I think his point is great. How do you figure the opposite is true? Seems to me that if you’re a fringe NBA prospect, taking the bag in front of you, continuing to develop, be a ****ing super-hero swimming in snail (should you choose that life) at your school, and probably getting a degree is far more preferable than rolling dice that you’ll make it in the NBA.
Eventually these players will run out of eligibility and they will enter the draft. So you will have a draft chock full of developed prospects. I don't know when the rollover will translate to a super strong 2nd round, but it will (theoretically) happen.

Eventually, yeah I can see that.

I was responding to Numb's post about liking the players we could potentially pick with our second round picks this year.

Dame Sarr got the start in Euroleague today but only played 8 minutes. It seems like he’s going to Illinois (that was the plan last year from what I’ve read) but you have to think that a first round promise could be enticing. From random reddit comments that surely know what they’re talking about it seems like he’s been vocal about getting to the NBA asap.

If the late first round dries up because of NIL/Portal, I want this guy. There’s still a lot of time left in his season so he could still move up or it can become more clear that he will go to NCAA.

It seems like there are more than a handful of overseas guys that are being taken up by NIL as well. At some point everyone will run out of eligibility, but until then I expect the second round and maybe even late first round to be very weak.

So drafts are gonna suck in the late stages until probably 2028? ****ing great. Glad we have three 1sts in 2027.

My top-6 are locked unless something crazy happens in the pre-draft process.

1 - Flagg
2 - Harper
3 - Bailey
4 - Edgecomb
5 - Johnson
6 - Jakucionas

I would probably put VJ higher, but compensating for being undersized with bonkers athleticism is not sustainable and I’m not a fan of it. I think his anthro measurements are going to suck. Bailey could suck or he could end up the best player in this draft or anything in-between. I feel comfortable swinging on that pitch if we get the 3rd pick.
I have VJ and Ace switching spots and Kon taking Jakucionas spot

I think you gotta take the upside swing on Bailey at 3.

I personally like Queen at 5. But you’ll have to use him as an offensive hub. He’s not a spoke I.e. stretch big or rolling dunker. No ceilings mentioned they think he’s a better defender than being given credit. Said he’s solid in the cat and mouse game of pick and roll and knows how to play drop coverage.

It seems like the consensus top 4 are Flagg/Harper/Ace/VJ.

Is there a consensus 5th or is that where it gets more iffy?
Iffy.
Tre Johnson for me I think

This is a legitimate question that I don't know the answer to: How likely is an off ball player in college to become an All Star?

I typically think of guys like Ace and VJ that don't play on ball to have lower upside. There aren't that many all stars who play off ball, for example. I haven't ever really looked at what the likelihood of an off ball guy in college becoming an on ball guy in the NBA.
Bumping this question. I would really love to hear some thoughts on this, especially from those people who have been following the draft closely for longer than I have.

Define what "off-ball" means. Was Hayward an off-ball player? He became an all-star. Paul George? Klay Thompson? Steph Curry?

IMO there are a ton, but it depends on what your definitions is for on/off ball player.

Good points. I would say someone that has major responsibilities for dribbling, passing, and creating. I would consider George, Hayward and Curry on ball, Klay as off ball, although I don't really remember what their roles were in college.

I think of VJ and Ace as both off ball players, although they are probably right on the border of considering on ball. VJ would sometimes be asked to dribble and create, but it wasn't a primary role for him. Ace created, but only for himself.

I think Ace is becoming a little underrated around here.

17.6 PPG and 7.2 RPG
35% from 3 on 4.5 attempts per game

6’10

He will still be 18 on draft night. Barely turns 19 a month after summer league.
and one would only know this if you watch actual games, but he's very good on ball defender who plays extremely hard on that end of the floor. as a help defender, he averages as many blocks per game as cooper flagg.

either way, regardless of whatever anybody thinks of Bailey, there is a good chance that's who the jazz come out of this draft with. jazz fans might want to start warming up to the dude.
