Cody has improved his physical presence and confidence to the point that he isn't just overwhelmed. He obviously needs to work on his efficiency and decision-making.
Or Cody just needs more time to develop. Jalen was still in college at this age.Cody needs a Jalen Williams blood transfusion.
In a game full of disappointments there were some nice things going on:
Nurkic has a Kelly O impact. I'm pleasantly surprised with his preseason.
If Harkless can improve his offense that'd be nice. He's probably super useful in scrimmage though as he's such a solid defender and probably frustrates our guards to no end.
Taylor had a nice game - especially in the 2nd half. I know it's going to take some time for him to get acclimated again but this game was nice to see.
I remember his rookie year I legitimately thought he was a fast as any player in the league and running from one end of the court to the other. He was a gazelle. So light on his feet and incredibly fast as a straight line runner.I'm trying very hard to give him at least until the all star break before saying anything negative. Him being on the court and getting reps in at this point is all positive.
Not just stiff but also bad.Lauri looked really stiff last night.
Not just stiff but also bad.
Hope that contract isn't a noose around our necks we have to wear for the duration of the contract. He looked really rough. It was also his first game this season so I shouldn't read too much into it.
I mean he was dominating in FIBA a couple of months ago. He will be fine. Not just stiff but also bad.

18 years old lolIn other news, Flagg looked like a classic 3rd banana. That's just the kid's game, no reason to fight it. It's funny he's only played a few preseason games and the announcers are already singing the "Mavs need to integrate him into the offense" song. We'll be hearing a lot more of that as the season goes along.
Flagg is a dude who fills in the blanks. That's a valuable role on a contender (which the Mavs are not, mind you).
He's not "big" and he certainly isn't strong (not yet at least). His shot comes and goes and he can't bully 4's and 5's near the basket anymore like he did in college.
I do like how he sees the game, though. Smart kid. Now he just has to understand he's not a star anymore. Embracing your NBA mediocrity is a key to a long career.
