The Lauri Thread

I would definitely prefer to keep Lauri at this point and fully ramp up next season, he's been my favorite player since rookie Donovan.

But the one package I would jump at if offered is the Hawks offering the Pelicans/Bucks 2026 pick in a Lauri/Porzingis trade.

Don't think Atlanta would do it, but it's the one potential overpay I'd be listening for.
I would love to keep him. He's an incredible player, non-complacent, no drama. My only concern is if he keeps playing this year will we lose our draft pick to OKC? I think the answer is yes. Is it better output to receive a package deal for Lauri AND a potential top 5 pick or Lauri and no pick. Lauri's stock may never be higher. Imagine if we keep him, we get no pick, and he has a big down year next year or gets injured...we'd really regret not pulling the trigger this trade deadline. I think it's wiser to trade him get as much as you can and get a big time player in the draft then you are absolutely loaded with picks and can bring in another great player anyway.

Trading Lauri at this point really kicks the can way down the road for getting competitive again. Like WAY down the road. Hard pass. No guarantee the lottery will be good to us this year, and the thought of junk players from Detroit and more mid 20s draft picks for Lauri Markkanen makes me want to vomit. Another 5-6 years of utter irrelevance

Besides we're easily gonna keep our draft pick. We still suck plenty most nights

I would need much more. All of a sudden Pelicans get their groove going with Murray back, and you're looking at Lauri for salary filler and a 8-10th pick?

We also move our pick from 8-10 and possibly to okc up to top 5

I'm on the keep him band now, so he's probably going to be dealt somewhere at some point. I'm used to it. Life sucks. Poor me, it's about me not him, gosh give me my blue pill now... matrix reference, just in case... hahahaha

Lauri has taken a step back lately. Some of that is from expected regression from a hot start, but I also think he looks a little run down out there from so many minutes. When you take his entire 19 game sample size, I don't think he's pretty much on par with Year 1&2 as a Jazzman. More usage and shots, but less relative efficiency. The good news is that this means Lauri is still an awesome player, but I don't think he's necessarily taken a "leap" if that makes sense.

We've seen this a lot in players that play a full slate of summer leagues and tournaments. It adds to the wear and tear on their bodies and they often enter a slump part way into the season. I've never been a fan of a team paying a players 10's, and now basically 100's of millions just for that player to burn all their gas during the summer and not have anything left for the team that made them multimillionaires.

Sorry, that would be full-blown... R-worded. I don’t have a more suitable descriptor.

This organization is a little dysfunctional, it’s not that.
I think we might be full-blown spaz mode tbh. I'm not encouraged by the stuff I hear. Think we have too many voices in the FO right now and it pulls in multiple directions. The goal of being "the most competitive 20-25 win team" is in itself inconsistent.

Svi, Love, etc. are good for culture... I get that. You can't have them adding any wins though as the margins are so thin if Key and Lauri are playing and are good.

Oh wow, the one millionth report in a row says the Jazz want to winner sooner than later. Shocking.
If they traded Lauri now it would be the greatest rug pull acting job by a front office maybe ever.

The Jazz have no trade assets on their roster other than Ace Bailey and the 2031 Suns pick and one of their three NBA players is out for the season, lol.

Are we going to package together Cody Williams, Taylor Hendricks, Walter Clayton Jr, and the 2027 Lakers first for like Daniel Gafford. That's probably the ceiling of what we can get.

We have a -7.8 (!!!!) point differential.

'"Anything left"?

We're a long way into the season and this dude is literally averaging 28/6/2 while playing almost 36mpg. Not to mention the amount he runs during a game is flat out crazy for a 7 footer.

Sure Lauri's probably getting tired, but I'd worry more about the fact that there are kids on this team who didn't "burn their gas" playing international ball in the summer, and they're still not working half as hard as Lauri.

I mean what's their excuse? The last time I checked, they were all multimillionaires.

Please show me where I let anyone off the hook. Believe it or not you can hold more than one opinion at a time on a variety of subjects. So if I complain about players not playing hard enough am I also not allowed to be concerned about maybe officiating or something else? It isn't binary. Don't put words in my mouth. And you did nothing to answer my point, one way or the other. Yes his averages look good. But averages never tell the entire story. The trajectory is downward for pretty much all of his stats. That's the concern and the impetus for my comment.
