What's new

The Lauri Thread

is there a sell high aspect to Lauri? last night's game got me a tad paranoid in the sense that i can see him getting tired and his numbers tanking at some point in the season. perhaps not now, maybe it's just a couple down games (scored just 19 vs okc - an efficient 19, but just 8 shot attempts could be a sign of fatigue), but maybe late december, early january. he's coming of a pretty bad season for him, and it would suck to if the jazz are getting great offers for him and it turns out his best seasons are behind him.

I'm mostly worried about running him into the ground. He's never played this many MPG, and he's also not been the healthiest guy throughout his career. I don't think there's a good reason to push him this hard. You're not the first person to point out that he's looked tired at points this season. Even if we were in 100% win now mode I think 36MPG is too much and broaches in to Thibs territory.

You can't make big interpretations based on some OKC game, that team is insane and defensively the worst possible matchup to Lauri as of many.

The Lakers game again... First time this season Lauri felt more just annoyed than poised - but still got it going for last five minutes. I said somewhere this rest of the year will mean his averages for down bc there's so many good teams ahead. Teams that play good defense and understand how to game plan over Lauri and live with it if they leave lesser players open.
i feel like this is a response to me. if so, i think you missed the point. i even said it might have just been bad two game stretch. the point is, he is being asked to carry a huge load, and it shouldn't be shocking if he gets worn down and the numbers come down drastically.

i'm also not saying the jazz should trade him. just a thought that came to mind and thought i'd throw it out there.

Yeah, his style of scoring to maintain 30ppg is a quite a big ask. He improved his handle a little bit in the off season and his midrange game, but I feel it needs another step so he doesn't have to be running as much thru the screen actions. It works easier, when there's no guys defending like Lu that can keep up with him and keep pounding on his body, but especially someone like Lu Dort worns you out and it's very hard to play in Lauris style under such defenses to get 20 shots up like in his first 13 games stretch. Not, when your team doesn't have enough scoring threats bc these good teams don't lose Lauri like worse teams so he can't get any breathing room. In Reddit I stated I think his averages come down to 27 at best the longer season goes (His all star PPG 25,6 would be great too, but more is more), bc he can't keep playing this much in a season where these losses keep piling up. It won't .make any sense especially after the all star selections are done.

I think they go strong with Lauri and Key all the way to all star selections and then we start see their minutes, especially Lauri's start come down more because at that point, playoffs aren't realistic option anymore.

I would definitely prefer to keep Lauri at this point and fully ramp up next season, he's been my favorite player since rookie Donovan.

But the one package I would jump at if offered is the Hawks offering the Pelicans/Bucks 2026 pick in a Lauri/Porzingis trade.

Don't think Atlanta would do it, but it's the one potential overpay I'd be listening for.

I would love to keep him. He's an incredible player, non-complacent, no drama. My only concern is if he keeps playing this year will we lose our draft pick to OKC? I think the answer is yes. Is it better output to receive a package deal for Lauri AND a potential top 5 pick or Lauri and no pick. Lauri's stock may never be higher. Imagine if we keep him, we get no pick, and he has a big down year next year or gets injured...we'd really regret not pulling the trigger this trade deadline. I think it's wiser to trade him get as much as you can and get a big time player in the draft then you are absolutely loaded with picks and can bring in another great player anyway.

Trading Lauri at this point really kicks the can way down the road for getting competitive again. Like WAY down the road. Hard pass. No guarantee the lottery will be good to us this year, and the thought of junk players from Detroit and more mid 20s draft picks for Lauri Markkanen makes me want to vomit. Another 5-6 years of utter irrelevance

Besides we're easily gonna keep our draft pick. We still suck plenty most nights

I would need much more. All of a sudden Pelicans get their groove going with Murray back, and you're looking at Lauri for salary filler and a 8-10th pick?

We also move our pick from 8-10 and possibly to okc up to top 5

I'm on the keep him band now, so he's probably going to be dealt somewhere at some point. I'm used to it. Life sucks. Poor me, it's about me not him, gosh give me my blue pill now... matrix reference, just in case... hahahaha
