What's new

1-11

apart from all his other shortcomings, he takes Gordon out of the game .. completely. He seems like a nice kid but he has delusions of grandeur

Remember how I said the board will turn on Burke once he has a couple of off nights? Then Cy was like "nah, people will give him the benefit of the doubt" and I'm like "yah right, lol".

After missing 22 of his last 25 three point attempts I think even Mama Burke is blocking him on Twitter now.

So to you a couple of bad nights is? The whole damn season. His shooting % is **** and his defense isn't even that good.

Although I said that I like Burke off the bench, his 1-11 outing does concern me. Players have to be able to adjust if they are that off ... particularly at the PG position. The guy plays as if he's Chris Paul. And, to borrow the cliche line "You sir are no Chris Paul."

I don't disagree. Burke sucks. He never turned a corner. He's a streaky shooter, and he did add a bit to his game this season. I think the bench role suits him a lot better though.

As I said in the game thread yesterday, Burke's lack of offense is having a profoundly negative impact on his defense. In the second quarter he got burned by a player 16 years older than him on a transition play. And at least twice in the second half I saw him guarding no one on rotations. Even QS was screaming at him from the sidelines to pressure the ball (at least once it was fairly audible on the announcer mics).

This is why he needs to be benched. Cotton's second 10 day contract expires after Monday's game against Charlotte. Give the kid a chance for a couple of games to play for his life - although I'm fairly confident Utah is going sign him for the rest of the year next week.

Next year will be a big year for him. I don't expect much, but giving up on his development after 2 years would be a mistake.

Would it be though? How high is his ceiling? A decent backup? It's not like we'll be missing out on an all star. It's worth remembering that even though he is satisfied right now, it is highly doubtful he'll be happy with a true backup role (15-18 mpg). Since this is what's going to happen as Exum develops a bit, I don't really care what happens to Burke. That said, he is on a pretty cheap rookie contract, and he doesn't have much of a trade value. Might as well keep him for the next two years. His value can only go up.

The exorcism must continue
Suckitude can't be cured. Even HE taught us amputation is sometimes the ONLY way ("if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off"). Trey needs to be cut off from the team.

What I see is Hood perhaps starting (if we don't get a starting wing in free agency). Not that he's any better than Alec, but he complements our starters better. We have Hayward as our penetrator and two bigs who play inside. We need two others who can shoot 3's. Look at what happened against Houston. Dante and Rodney had all the 3's they wanted. When they make them, it's game over. Had Utah not had such a huge lead, Houston would have struggled to score 80 pounts. Basically, Utah could have gone scoreless the last period and probably won.

The problem then becomes Trey and Alec paired together as subs. That just isn't going to work. Both like the ball in their hands. Both like to drive to the hoop. Burks can actually be effective doing that; Trey just ends up on the floor.
