What's new

1-11

I don't understand people saying Trey Burke big problem is being inconsistent. Even when he is good he is mediocre. When he is bad he is terrible.

He needs to get better - no question. But his attitude about being benched has been great, he can be really clutch, and provides scoring off the bench...usually. I get frustrated watching him sometimes, but like others have said, he's a great kid and a good teammate. Perhaps he has the tools to get better. I don't know for sure but I hope so.

I think we need a free agent pg. Dante is not ready now, and he won't be next year. I would be surprised if Trey is on the roster next year. It will be very interesting to see what position we draft. We're going to have Burks back, at least one more rookie, Tomic and hopefully a good free agent.

I don't really know what we could get for him, hopefully as the rest of the team gets better either he will improve too or he will settle into a less chucky role. Hard to say, but on a good team this kind of volume shooting probably won't fly.

I felt like he had turned the corner a few games ago as far as actually getting in the paint with regularity, but the last couple he's taking all 3s and stepback midrange shots again instead of the floater and search dribble.

What I've seen this season is that Trey can't really cut it as a starter, however he can be extremely dangerous up against bench players. He has looked so good at times, that you wonder if he should be starting, but then get reminded of his inconsistency against better competition. Whether or not he works out with the Jazz long term depends on if he can accept the role. Even more than that, can he embrace the role?

There are many players in the history of the league that have embraced that role and really helped their teams win. But it requires the right kind of player. If they feel disrespected because they aren't starting and let that affect their game, it won't work long term.

I really like what I've seen from Trey off the bench and he has helped them win a lot of games in recent weeks. I hope that he is accepting the role and not secretly hating it. Good teams have good benches and he performs a valuable role on the team. I hope he sees it that way.

He still has great potential and only his second year. He is a smart player. He definitely needs to find people more often. I like him on our team. I like Dante's D better, Trey is quick enough to be a good defender and hopefully that's something he gets better at.

I don't know what he'll cost, but I personally think that Jeremy Lin would be great in Burke's role. I said last year that I'd have taken him on in a trade over Novak because I think he's a good fit for what Quin wants to do (plus it would have yielded a better asset.) He's a guy who could run the bench and contribute as a scorer, distributor, shooter and especially in P&R situations - that was where he thrived in NYC during the Linsanity days.

I disagree. When he's good he's good. There have been multiple games where nobody but him was giving the team jack in terms of scoring. It's not just about numbers, it's about the timeliness of the scoring, and the willingness to do the scoring.

But when he's awful, he really hurts the team because he refuses to not keep shooting.

Burke has a ton of clunkers, but he is still a young player in this league and has shown the desire to work hard on his game. Yeah, it's frustrating when he sucks, but he's one of the only guys outside of Hayward and Favors that has shown he actually has the ability to get some buckets from time to time. For a team that struggles offensively I don't think that's something one can just overlook and cast aside like he provides no benefit, or say the Jazz would be better off without him. He desperately needs to become a consistent 3 point shooter doe. Most of the 3's he takes are decent shots for a good 3 point shooter, but he's not one yet.

Burke's biggest problem is that he is prone to inconsistency, and he can't have an impact on the game if he's shooting badly. For example, Hayward could still play solid defense, rebound and make passes to set up teammates even if he's having a rough shooting night. Trey's only got his shot. He's got one of the better midrange shots in the league, but that's not the most reliable weapon. He needs to learn to have an impact on the game besides scoring.

People here seem to think Burke isn't very good because he's inconsistent. I say it's the other way around. Burke is inconsistent because he's not very good.
