Trey's biggest problem is he hasn't embraced the role of being PG. He is trying to be a scorer, when he needs to be a facilitator. If he could just tone back on the shooting, and worry about getting others good shots I think he could make a decent starting PG. He is a good enough shooter to be an OK scorer off the bench, but tries to force it a bit too much, thus having these horrible nights. He shouldn't be scoring over 15 points a game, simply because he shouldn't be taking that many shots. He is averaging about 13 shots a night, but should be closer to 8-9. If he picks his shots better, he would shoot better.
I had so much hope for him because he was the heart and soul of the michigan team and played so well the whole year. I thought he was just what the Jazz needed, but even Quinn can't get him to play his role. Maybe with Burks and another shooter added to the team, he can to better. I think he'll get at least next year with the Jazz, and probably will play out his rookie contract, but if he doesn't improve, will just lose minutes. Not much value as a trade asset right now, and the Jazz sadly don't have any better options at PG.
People here seem to think Burke isn't very good because he's inconsistent. I say it's the other way around. Burke is inconsistent because he's not very good.
I don't understand people saying Trey Burke big problem is being inconsistent. Even when he is good he is mediocre. When he is bad he is terrible.
Trey is averaging 13 attempts a game and only making 5 of them with only 4 assists in 30 minutes a game. WHY are you guys saying this guy is good? What about him and his play says "career PG for the Utah Jazz"? I know his game has picked up a little since being benched but really his averages are terrible. He seems like the new Enes Kanter of the team. Good scorer but doesn't fit his role with the team.
What are these things he has that you can't teach that Dante doesn't also have? I'd argue Dante has things that Trey doesn't that can't be taught. But I can't think of a single thing that Trey has that can't be taught.Clearly? I wouldnt say that. Hes in his second year, and has had some great moments. Consistency and having really ****ty nights like last night are his issue. Writing his future off now is just insane. Id say its leaning towards that now, but he can still improve and get better.
Clearly he is talented, but too inconsistent right now to lock him up as THE guy for the future.
But if we are being honest here, hes got things that right now that Dante doesnt have yet. Things that you cant teach.
They run PNR with him. He just doesn't pass it. He keeps it. And shoots. Almost every ****ing time. Last night was about the last straw for me. Not only was he bad he was pathetic. Couldn't shoot, wouldn't pass. Here's the problem his role is of a scorer with this team. Trey greatest strength at Michigan was that of decision maker especially out of the PNR. That isn't what he's being asked to do with Utah. Shooting as poor as he has this early in his career won't get it done, however Burke greatest attribute is not being used. When you look at the roster especially without Burks there aren't anybody outside of Hayward creating their own shots. Trey has to play the Chris Paul role to be at his most effective. He can't do that when Hayward, Exum, and Ingles are facilitators like he should be.
Some people need to go back and watch Burke's clips at Michigan to understand who Trey really is as a player. You don't set records for assist if you are just some naturally aims chucker.
Ultimately I think Burke doesn't fit Synder's system prefert and the current Jazz roster even less. A trade would do wonder to a team that runs more PNR offense.
Exum is very consistent on defense. Burke isn't even that. Exum also won't shoot a team out of a game.If this is the case Exum most be one of the worst players in the league.
