2011 draft.....

yo, Bentley, see above. This is what the Knight posts were in response to.

Ok, so Irving, Williams, Kanter, Biyombo, and Walker are off the board. This leaves me with:

Valanciunas, Knight, Vesely, Donatas, T. Jones, or someone they could get at 12. Look, I understand why many of you opt for Knight here. He really may be BPA. But I'd probably go with one of the foreigners. Last year I was kinda smitten with Donatas. But this year I'd probably opt for the skinny defense of Valanciunas over skinny offense of Donatas. But this is hard. Great hypothetical question. I absolutely hate it.

One more thing. Is Knight that much better than Fredette? He's one inch taller, faster and more athletic but not lightning fast, and his range is inferior. I think they're very different but their respective strengths kinda break even.
So which seems better:

Knight at 6 and (Burks, Hamilton, K. Thompson, T. Thompson, N. Smith) at 12
or
(Kanter, Bismack, Valanciunas, Vesely, Donatas) at 6 and Fredette at 12.

I take this back. It may be reaching but I'd strongly consider going with Terrence Jones to play the 3. He's long, led the SEC in rebounding (I think) with 8.8 per game, had almost two blocks a game, over a steal a game, and 1.6 assists per game (not bad) and can play strong defense. He also shot a higher percentage from the floor than Knight. I know it's apples to oranges and Jones largely played the 4 at UK but still...he also shot over 32% from three which isn't terrible for a frosh who supposedly can't shoot. When it mattered most, in the NCAA tourney, he shot 55% from three going 5 of 9.

In short, he has the length and athleticism to play in today's NBA and we need that. He also plays defense, rebounds, blocks shots, and can pass so he's bot some one-dimensional player. Can he shoot? Not great. But he's shown he can decently enough for a college freshman and I see no reason a kid can't improve if he works hard. Look at Gordon this year compared to his college career.

I think they'd compliment one another very well on the wings.

I like Jones at 12.

Ok, I watched Knight in the tourney and while he made some clutch shots and I think he'll be pretty good I just didn't see anything amazing. Does someone want to enlighten me?

I could be totally wrong and Knight might become the next Michael Jordan but I really doubt it. Even if he just becomes a pretty good PG like say, Jameer Nelson, I think I'd rather take a chance on a guy at a different position. I mean, like OGat said - the Jazz already have Harris. And to those that want Knight because he's a combo guard and can play the 2 - do we really want a 6'3" SG taking minutes from 6'8" Hayward? ...I mean size is pretty awesome.

I do think that the Jazz get more value in drafting size rather than drafting a PG that looks like he MIGHT be better than Harris. It could turn out horribly, sure. Kanter could be the second coming of Borschardt. But he could also be a more physical Dirk Nowitzki. That quite a range I know but we're gambling here and I'd rather take that gamble (or a less risky one in Bismack) than draft a pretty good, yet superfluous, PG.

AND I do adhere to the POV that you don't need a top tier PG to win a title, so I'm not inclined to waste a high draft pick on one unless it's a slam dunk. (when the Jazz win the 1st pick we'll start debating the Kyrie conundrum).

ALSO, the Jazz have draft picks in 2012 and it seems like there are always decent PGs if we wanna use a pick on one then. Again, Harris is the starter next year.

AND ONE MORE THING - the Jazz are going to draft Fredette this year. There's no getting around that (unless of course the Jazz win the lottery etc). So this next year the Jazz can evaluate him and see if he will become the next Nash or House. And that information will help them determine who to draft in 2012. Drafting Knight this year just doesn't seem a wise move to me.

I like Knight. He seems to be very confident, good all around game, plays good defense, and has speed. He is taller than Walker, not as explosive, but seems to be very crafty. Can take a hit, and still finish. Seems like the type of guy you would want to go to battle with, and someont that will raise his game in big situations. He wants to be in those moments.

Knight isn't a sure thing, but I think he's a good prospect. If Biyombo, Irving, Dwill2, and Kanter are off the board I hope we take Knight. He's on the list
of players I'd be excited about acquiring. Watch some of his You Tube videos. Notice the swagger. Get on the train!

If we are looking at Jones at 12 though, isnt it fair to consider Leonard too? They are similar players, but I think Leonard is a better defender. Jones is only favored over Leonard because he is a freshman and still has the high freshman "potential".

I'm leaning towards Biyombo at 6 and Hamilton at 12. The picks provide an energy, REBOUNDING, defensive player and a scoring SF that is already familiar with the flex. Sounds like the best chance we have at quick contention with a very young team ala OKC. If these two turn out like they should, we'll be competitive within 2 years.

Watching Knight and T. Jones, they both have potential and they great athletic ability. T. Jones was more of a scorer earlier in the season and he looked more dominant as a lead scorer. He became more of a passer as the season progressed. I think he could be a good SF, but he definitely is going to have to work on his shooting. He has a left handed wind up jump shot with a slow release. I think Knight has more potential and more risk. He can be dynamic and he can also disappear in long streches in games.

Jazz have two lottery picks and a terrible delusion that they are a good team with some small problems they can fix from within. I'm guessing they're the first team to take one of the Euro bigs.

So they have their choice between Bismack and Kanter? That would be awesome.
