Also Orton came out after not doing that much in College. Everyone else Green named had a pretty damn successful freshman year.

Who would you say, for CERTAIN, will be much better? As you say, "the draft is a gamble", so it works both ways if you pass on Knight.
Listen, I am very intrigued by Kanter and wouldn't at all be upset if we got him, BUT there are an equal number of questions to answers with him. To me he is the highest risk/reward player in the draft.

there is no way to win in the NBA without several BIGS , i think we have to take ENES,

This is a weak draft. There isn't an MJ in it so I'm inclined to bet on a big.
At the absolute worst, it blows up in the Jazz' face. What are they out? The chance at Brandon Knight? Guys like Brandon Knight, or at least almost as good as him, can be had outside the lottery in almost any year. I mentioned Nolan Smith because he's got a terrific resume. You could make the same "potential" argument for Reggie Jackson. Since we're just idealizing guys you could just as easily say Jackson could be better than Knight.
My point is there are lots of PGs that COULD be really good. And they're littered thru the draft. Is Knight so fantastic that the Jazz should burn their top 3 pick on him when they could take a less costly gamble on a guy like Reggie Jackson?

It's like drafting for fantasy football. Drew Brees might be the best QB in the league but it costs a first round pick to draft him. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are just as good and they can be had in the following rounds. Actually, last year Kyle Orton was better than all these guys and he went undrafted (you could get him for free without even wasting a draft pick on him).
Elite running backs on the other hand are harder to draft in later rounds. You pretty much have to use your first round pick on one since it'll be a lot harder to find their equal production in later rounds.

DX added best case/worst case scenarios for top 15 players. I know these things aren't the rule, but I thought Jonas Valanciunas one was the most interesting. They have him as Andreis Beidrins meets Joakhim Noah, which is a player I would absolutely want.

Says Portland twice, and Detriot once. Take the best player. If we end up with too many very good big men, fine. Danny Ainge just received Green for Perkins. Hoard assets. Don't draft for need. Players get hurt, players get traded. Players throw hissy fits. You always need more of whatever you have.

Yeah, no certainties. Which is why you gamble on a more rare commodity.
What are you out? A PG. Which you can strike it rich on anywhere in the draft. Much harder to strike it rich on a big unless he's in the lottery.

If the Jazz can somehow nab DWill2 at #3, he and Millsap prove to be competent at the 3 (and 4, obviously), CJ and AK are brought back, and the Jazz nab a PG at 12 (Reggie Jackson for example), the following 9 man rotation would be decent entering next season (starters listed first):
C: Big Al (32), Favors (16)
PF: Favors (12), Millsap (18), DWill (18)
SF: Millsap (12), AK (28), DWill (8)
SG: Hayward (28), CJ (20)
PG: Harris (30), Reggie Jackson (18)
Note: Even if Millsap can't play the 3, there should be plenty of minutes for him at the 4 (assuming, as I do, that Favors projects as a good defensive 5).

Valanciunas would be fine at 12. If we want to pass on Jimmer, and go that direction I'm fine with it.

Honestly, I like Jonas Valanciunas over Kanter. Defensive minded big who has a nice body. Great rebounder and has a motor. I think there is some contractual issue's with him, but he is a guy who I would not mind trading up from 12 to get. We need a defensive big.
