What's new

2011 draft.....

They're interesting stats though when you look at 'em next to each other, dontcha think? I mean even if you wanna disregard Nash's stats, Price's stats are equally similar. If Fredette turned out to be Price that would be pretty awesome. I'm just trying to look at something concrete rather than go with the groupthink. Seriously, this time of year players get labeled and then it's hard to shake it. So I'm trying to be objective.

Fair enough I guess. He's a very polarizing figure though. And for good reason. On one hand, he plays a very candy, accessible game. He scores a lot of points, plays one-on-one, he makes a lot of stupid (and I mean that) shots that the book says he shouldn't shoot. It's fun. It's tempting. On the other hand, he's one of the worst defenders I've seen in my life and is a PG that doesn't help his teammates be better. On top of that, he's white so he doesn't get called out for chucking and that puts a chip on every white person's shoulder to defend criticisms of his athleticism. And he's Mormon.

Polarizing. I'm not immune to it.

Really young, got noticeably better as the season went. Has moxy already, led Kentucky to a Final Four appearance, even as a freshman (and despite not having a great individual performance in the tournament, made things happen when it mattered most). Great attitude and work ethic. Superb physical specimen for a PG with enough size (and judging by his bench press test, strength as well) to cover the 2 at times as well if it came down to it. Still very clearly learning the game but still quite good considering that at the same time.

The short version; His basement isn't that low, his ceiling is outer space.

Just awesome.

You're guessing he can do it. I'm OK with guessing, but Jimmer is too much guessing at 12.

Billy this is one of those drafts when every player is a guessing game. Irving and his injuries/Body fat. Williams SF or PF? Kanter, Can he play against a person instead of a chair? The list goes on and on. I don't think you can up and say that any pick in this draft is a safe pick or in other words there is going to be a lot of "guessing" this year.

Let me add 2x Gatorade national player of the year only 2 other players have ever done that.

That's why I brought up Carroll. There's probably a solid list of guys whose stats compare to Fredette, even in girth. But I'm old enough to remember Price who starred in the ACC when the best players in all of college basketball played in the ACC or Big East. No one doubted Price would translate. I'm sure I thought Nash was a fluke at the time. But Nash at least had all that Canadian National Team experience which exposed him to extremely talented players. Scouts would have seen him against NBA caliber guys. With Jimmer, you don't have that. You're guessing he can do it. I'm OK with guessing, but Jimmer is too much guessing at 12.

Your argument with Nash and the national team is flawed. Jimmer played on a hand selected team that trained with the Olympic team sounds like pretty good experience to me, and from what have read impressed a lot of players.

Every year is a guessing game. But guessing at 12 should be weighed against what guessing at 12 has been in other years, and more importantly how much guessing at 12 this year differs from guessing at 20 this year. That's my point. I see everything after 9 as a wild guess. So picking BPA at 12 has less worth than it ever has. The smart move is to see if anyone at 20 has deluded themselves into thinking the guy they want at 12 is worth giving something up for. Almost any asset PLUS the 12 is worth more than the 12.

But as I will say over and over, if the 12 can get turned into Biyombo, I'm on board.

News to me. Did he train against the actual Olympic team? If I was drafting Jimmer, I'd want to know a lot about this.

Not that young, will be 20 in December. As far as top picks go he is older than Kanter, Irving, Leonard, and Jonas.
