What's new

2011 draft.....

Yeah that is probably why KOC will not trade up for a top 3. Although he may go euro on one of the picks to stash overseas for a year or two (Jonas, Donotas)?

I actually think thats a very good idea considering we dont need 2 new rookies. Stashing a guy is a good alternative.

I disagree with this. The jazz need talent now. They need to develop these guys and have them gel. I think we as jazz fans are so used to rookies just sucking *** that we don't realize how special it is to have two lottery picks. I for one hope the jazz stay the hell away from any of the euros. There is talent in this draft. Let's just hope koc does not get size happy and blow these picks.

I agree with this, but I don't put Kanter in the Euro category. If he's there, he might be the best pick. The Jazz need wings but this is not a good draft for wings (where they might be picking). That's what's making Barnes look so intriguing is that he's probably the best wing. Taking players to stash in Europe is really not going to help the D-Will trade make sense. If the Jazz come out of this with one of the European players and Jimmer, this draft/trade is a failure. The other thing they can't do is get another power forward. There are no great power forwards in this draft. There are some very good ones, but are they better than those the Jazz currently have? Probably not.

nbadraft.net says that Kanter has some history with leg problems.

This.

I guess a little in my defense, I'm not thinking Jimmer and a Euro, I'm thinking BPA with the 6/7ish and euro with the second. We need talent, yes, but should we try and manufacture some where none exists? I'd LOVE to have 2 über talented lottery picks but, imo, that isn't going to come to fruition.

So what I'm saying is lets not force the issue by having Hayward, Favors and Evans fight for time with another two rookies. None of the current rookies have a solid foundation at this point so there are growth stunting possibilities by mixing in two new guys that will likely have both A) demand for minutes because of being lottery guys and B) the expectations that come with that.

My order of scenarios would be:

1) get 2 guys with very low bust potential, Irving/Dwill2 types or again, one of the guys that seems to wow in workouts every year. This is obviously VERY unlikely where we pick.

2) package the picks if we target one guy, ala Dwill trade. Love this scenario as its much more likely than 1.

3) trade either one or both picks for a starter at the wing.

4) Darft bpa and then a euro to stash.

5) Darft two projects from the list people love like: Barnes, Burks, Smith, Knight, Hamilton etc. There's a good chance one of these guys will turn out, but two? Having one project I can stomach, but two project guys with hi bust potential and average to above average at best ceilings is stupid, IMO.

So, yeah, taking a euro and stashing is one option away from the bottom. I should have clarified.

DREAM SITUATION:

DWill2 would be sweet as hell to get. I'd package both first rounders (if we miss the playoffs) + CJ to get him.
Then, I'd trade Millsap to Indiana for Paul George and Indy's first round pick this year and select a player like JuJuan Johnson or Marcus Morris to come off the bench for Favors and Jefferson.

Harris/Watson/Hayward
Hayward/George
George/DWill2
Favors/Johnson or Morris
Jefferson/Favors/Memo

Add a big name in '12 and you got yourself a pretty decent squad.

All that being said, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if anyone on this current squad is traded.

I don't think Barnes is as much a project as others believe him to be. I think he's more NBA ready than Hayward was. As a disclaimer, I haven't watched a whole lot this year because I didn't think the Jazz were going to have a pick. Oh, how times have changed.

Yeah, I think Barnes is gonna be a pretty safe solid pick. That's his floor. His ceiling is a franchise player stud.

If there was absolute certainty he'd be a stud he'd go number 1. If he's still there when the Jazz pick, he's a low-risk BPA.

I know that Nolan Smith is rated about 10 picks lower than where we are, but I think he'll make a solid backup PG as a pro.

This is now my favorite choice

Jazz get lucky in the lottery and get the 2nd or 3rd pick and take D-Will2. Then trade our pick to where Harrison Barnes goes and include CJ, Tomic or whoever that it will take to get him(GS pick?).

Then don't re sign AK, Elson, Fes. Openly shop Millsap and find a cheap 3rd PG. With AK's $ sign a SG and or defensive center

Watched Derrick Williams play a couple of times and he seems to be a Lamar Odom/Boris Diaw type so his future is more a power forward in the NBA. Unless we have a deal in place to trade Millsap, I am not sure if we will keep him even if we draft him.
