What's new

2011 draft.....

The problem is Rip's value is much lower than what he's being paid. Losing 10 mil off your salary cap for Rip is nuts.

It could end up saving the Jazz money this season. The year that it will add money is the season after next and then we will be in not as bad position financially compared to now.

Not as bad financially, but not a lot of players under contract. I'd rather use that 2013 money on someone more useful than Rip.

Except that $41 million is already tied up in only 6 players already. The Jazz aren't going to have cap space to do anything until befrore 2013 anyway (as presently constituted). I'm not saying I love the idea, either, but the timing of his contract expiring could not be better. Especially if there's an amnesty clause in the next CBA.

How can you not want this guy on the Jazz? He just described himself as the greatest basketball player in the league.

What? Do you want him to say that he's going to be the next Brendan Haywood or Adonyl Foyle? Obviously I don't think he's Pau + Dirk + Dwight....but at least he has some goals haha.

Can someone tell me if this is really true? Greg Miller just said on KFAN, with lots of hemming, hawing & qualifications, that they will take Jimmer at 12 if he's there, mainly due to merchandise sales, unless KOC flatout thinks he can't play.

Done deal, no more discussion needed.

Did the above really happen or was this person writting a comment to the article up in the night?

Anyone here the interview? I didn't. Greg isn't the best at handling PR situations he could have let it slip out. That would mean Brandon Knight is probably not in play at all for the Jazz at 3 (yay)

I heard the interview and that was not said. The impression I got was that Jimmer is being considered at 12, but it wasn't any guarantee. I think the only think he said was that he believed that there would be an initial financial benefit of drafting Jimmer in the way of jersey sales, but it would be only a spike. He said that the Jazz philosophy is to draft BPA and if Jimmer is the BPA at 12 then he'd probably be selected.

if we draft knight at 3, i hope tristan thompson is available at 12. what makes biyombo better than thompson?

Not much actually. Thompson is a terrific defender and tested about as good as Favors athletically, he just doesn't quite have Biyombo's length to spend time at center. There both very raw offensively.
