*****2013 Training Camp Updates and Discussion Thread*****

Well, duh. Ty no longer has Big Al he can rely on. With Ty's coaching ability he's probably just going to tell them to pass the ball around until someone gets open.

4 passes. 4!

Ever get really excited about this team, then remember we have Marvin Williams?
No. He's actually a good fit with this group, since he's a good defender and most of the team are above-average defenders, and those that aren't at least make an effort. And his vanishing on O isn't a problem, because we want so many other players to have the ball and develop their offence.

"Coach Corbin said the Jazz starting lineup is a work in progress and could change throughout the preseason. No names named."

Sounds like Corbin may have some tricks up his sleeve. Any lineup being pondered that isn't the C5 makes me think he is the exact same idiot we saw last year.

He better not. As you said, the starting line up should be the C5.

I partially agree, in that the C5 should see the majority of minutes, but I could see some real value to Alec Burks coming off the bench to be the offensive focus of the second unit. Alec likes the ball in his hands and that is not happening much if he plays with Gordon and Alfonso. If Corbin did put those three in together to start the games the starting Bigs would soon start to pout for lack of early touches.

Yes, but Gordon and Alec have said multiple times how much they like playing together, and how they can compliment each other w/ slashing (especially if Gordon handles ball w/ trey off of it). Favors doesn't really have an offensive game beyond dunks and put backs (hence his idiotic *** not getting a go to move in spite of Malone), so he can get his touches off the rim or on the break and on some picks.

Kanter however, I want to see him get a lot of touches.

Then who do you have starting for him? Jefferson? Williams and Rush are injured. When they are both healthy who would you start over Burks?

BTW, I think Kanter should be our 4 since he can hi from a lot of areas on the floor, even 3's, as well as posting up smaller PF's. While Fav is so limited offensively, and is really a good rim protector ala Dwight Howard.

Damn right. And I think it was foolish to keep him off mid range and even from 3 pt lane the first 2 years.

personally I would go Williams. I like how rush would open up the floor for burks slashing. rush takes the harder player to defend.

Burke
Hayward
williams
favors
kanter

is a good starting 5. Williams doesn't need the touches and is an above average defender.

burks
rush
Jefferson
Evans
Gobert

primary back ups

Rofl people still want to start Marvin that's unbelievable. Over a C4 not to mention. Like last 2 years didn't happen (Josh Howard was the Marvin of two years ago)

Uhhhhh Marvin Williams >>> Josh Howard.

Burks deserves the start. But he could be given a bigger role in this team a la James Harden. Nothing wrong with that.

Very okay with that. And quite frankly, simply one of those bench players (along with Burks) emerging would result in our bench not being half-bad.

I agree with this. if burks is getting 30 min a game off the bench does it matter if he is not starting, besides Marvin won't be ready start at the beginning so barks will start.

Marvin Williams in with that Core 4 is just disgusting. It's like Jar Jar mixed with R2D2, Chewbacca, C3PO, and Bobba Fett.

Lol in what universe? In 2011 Josh scored 8.7 ppg on .399 shooting. 2012 Marvin 7.2 ppg on .42 shooting

Marvin was so terrible last year, he's a nice guy but he sucks. Badly. Evans should play over him.

All about touches, mon-ami. Burks getting most touches would leave out the others from getting the touches they deserve.
