*****2013 Training Camp Updates and Discussion Thread*****

Y'all should rep sexual favors for posting the good stuff amoung the PMS.

82 games should mean that we get to see the mythical Core 5 together on the court much more than the 600 minutes that the Core 4 stared in last season. We should all remember that Lindsey didn't like the term Core 4, and really don't think it means anything to the jazz.

I still think that Alec would do better and serve the Jazz team better coming off the bench. But what the heck do any of us know of KOL's plans or whats in Ty Corbins mind? The starting 5 could easily feature only 2 of the so called core 5. Yes, I could see a starting 5 of Favors, & Hayward with Jefferson, Lucas, & Biedrens....and knowing Coach you got to admit it can happen.

Quick interview by Lindsey. Here's the skinny:

1.Doesn't see players as strictly defined by position, i.e, bigs could be 4 or 5 depending on night and matchup

2. Doesn't want to put too much on Gobert right now. Says Gobert is envisioned as a long term part of our team. Maybe could develop into Mark Eaton-esque player. Kind of made it sound like kanter, favors, evans, Beidrins, and Marvin are all ahead of him minute wise this year.

I'm in the camp of start Burks and see what happens.

He very well could end up being our best player. Those cards are still play whether or not people here believe it. I think its playing with fire to bring him off the bench. He has been benched long enough for terrible players. Now we want to tell him he still can't start because we think its better he comes off the bench??? Huh? That's foolish. Why would we want to try and piss off a potential big time player? What do we even got to gain from that? Burks deserves a chance to prove himself in the starting line up against other starters, and we shouldn't be denying him of that. He has waited long enough.

Good Grief!

Please no more dumb crap from the Jazz. I can't take it anymore

if you read my posts, you'd see that I completely agree with you in thinking that Burks should start at first, for confidence-building and respect.

Huh? Lol bro. Where did I say 6th **aren't a big deal**? Strawman strawman strawman!

interpreted it from here:

I think you're overemphasizing the "6th man" effect. And forgetting how ****ed Hayward's overall minutes were thanks to the 6th man assignment. He averaged less minutes per game last year than the year before.

You attribute Hayward's minutes as getting '****ed over' when being sent to the bench-- when it could be easily argued that he blossomed because of this bench-ing. PS: this happens on teams everywhere-- not just teams with Al Jefferson.

I can buy this. But at the same time, you're making a great point for me... Big Al isn't on the team anymore. There are no indications that the majority of our starting offense is going to involve freezing out the wing players. As good as Kanter and Favors are, and Kanter especially in the post, I can't see out offense being throw it into the post and camp style anymore. And if it is, Corbin will be gone before the season is over.

True. But either way, its much more likely that his game will improve if he has a more expanded offensive role. Cannot understand how you guys dont see this. I'm not gonna throw away an opportunity to maximize a player's growth just because 'I want him to start'. Its borderline pure-materialism.

And I'm sorry to the day-dreamers, but Hayward is way ahead. No way is Burks going to overtake him as the best offensive weapon on the team this year.

Ok then.

I'm just not ready to lable Burks as being better coming off the bench. We don't even know. And I'm even one that will say Hayward is better at the 2 than the 3. So I see the dilema. Its just that if there was ever a year to just give Burks his shot without worrying about everything else then its this year. I'm intrigued by Burks as much as I am of any of the core4. While a lot of people have seemingly written Burks off already. I think he has shown flashes of greatness. I don't want to go and screw things up now. We have already done enough the last two years by leaving him on the bench for horrible players. This year is about seeing what we got, not seeing if we can win a championship.

I agree. He needs >28 minutes. I just want most of those minutes with him calling the shots. Consequently, I have thought about him filling the 6th man role.

Its fun to actually talk jazz basketball again.... I feel like the off season was longer than triple K's wang and I'm so excited for next week preseason game!

BTW, I think Kanter should be our 4 since he can hi from a lot of areas on the floor, even 3's, as well as posting up smaller PF's.

Who and what is a "smaller" PF? And how is Kanter going to force the "smaller" PF to guard him and not the guy that has shown very little offensive skill?

Think how "rude" it would be if everyone is play the young guys, its the future, hand the team over to them. And then Burks gets left out of the starting line-up. Now maybe it would drive him to prove everybody wrong.

Or we say play the young guys and they play gobert over favors, so that we can have a good defender as the leader of the 2nd unit. I mean, we can't overlook how important the bench play is.

As for your first question, Smaller PF's:

Brandon Bass
paul Millsap
Carlos boozer
Tristan thompson
Kenneth faried
David Lee
David West
Zach Randolph
Udonis haslem
Ersam Ilyasova
Glen Davis
Lavoy Allen
Marcus Morris
Amir Johnson

Per your second question, which I think is asinine by the way, Kanter can score from almost anywhere on the floor; so why would a team double down on Favors at the rim? If Kanter played PF, he could drain frim mid range, or step out to the 3 more readily and punish the defense for playing off of him. He has a lot more stretch-4 potential than Fav has. Favors thrives at the rim, everywhere else he shoots below league averages.
