2014 College Football

If Marshall was one of the best 4 teams they'd have to be in, in theory, at least. So you don't think the committee follows their guidelines of selecting the four best teams? That's interesting.
I think things go into how they determine those 4 best teams.
I think strength of schedule and conference championships weigh extremely heavily in thier determining the 4 best teams.

Therefore, I think it is impossible for a team like marshall to get in.

I'm not arguing for or against OSU or TCU. I'm saying the committee picks the teams because they think those are the best four teams. Not because one played in a conference championship game and the other didn't. I'm not disagreeing with the selections at all. You guys just make faulty inferences on what people post. It's rather common. Not a big deal. Not everyone is destined to get a good score on the reading comprehension portion of the LSAT

Wow. That would be disappointing if true. I hope that's not the case.
Sadly I think it's the case.

College football is as corrupt and unfair as ever imo and the P5's have more control than ever before.

It's nice that you think that these committee members are honest, fair, and prefect people and will do what's right, but I dont believe that for one second.

Playing in and winning a conference championship game helps reveal how good a team is, something that Big 12 teams weren't able to do.

Let's say you are judging a "hottest girl alive" contest. There are 6 girls remaining and you have to choose 4 to go into the final round.

4 of the girls waltz in front of the judges in bikinis and they look flawless (play in conference championship game and win). The other two girls stay fully clothed.

"But this is a hottest girl alive contest, not a bikini contest! Just choose the hottest girls! Not the ones who wore bikinis cuz it don't matter!" -LazyD

Seeing the 4 girls in their bikini, in a way you didn't get to see the other 2 girls, revealed just how hot the 4 girls were.

The conference championship is the biggest showcase of the season, the grand finale.

The Big 12 was like, "nah, we'll just skip that. LOL."

That might have worked to their benefit under the BCS where teams were largely just trying to NOT lose games, but as has just been proven, a committee of humans isn't gonna play dat weak ish.

Dude, they have the entire season to see the teams. It's not like they never saw TCU or Baylor play anyone good.

Baylor played what many believe to be a tougher team in their last game anyway. So clearly, that can't be the be all end all.

And what's wrong with wanting to select the hottest girls when the contest is to select the hottest girls alive? Isn't that the purpose?

This is the best chance yet BYU is going to have to get into a P5 conference. A little advice, don't act like a prima donna. Make BYU football relevant again by making the concessions you can make to make it easier for an invite to the BIG 12. That or continue down the road of mediocrity.

I use the Oregon example. Oregon earlier in the season lost to Arizona. Both teams ended up in their conference championship game and we saw what happened. If BIG 12 were eligible for a conference championship(whether through waiver or adding 2 more teams) then this would have been a non story and either Baylor or TCU would be in the playoff over Ohio State. They really should have foresaw a situation like this.

How hard is it to understand that nobody is disagreeing with your opinion that the committee picks what they see as the 4 best teams? It just so happens that a conference title game gives the committee an extra game to look at these teams in situations in which the stakes are high and the pressure is on. It's silly to expect these title match ups not to have a direct effect on just who the committee sees as the best 4 teams.

I understand that entirely. Every game played should have a direct effect on how they make their determination. I just don't think a title game necessarily gets a big 12 team in. Clearly, the committee doesn't believe TCU or Baylor are one of the top 4 teams, so one of them winning a conference championship would automatically change their mind? That's what it seems is being argued here
