Stat of the day: The PAC is only 6-and-7 in Vegas Bowls against MWC opponents.
Surprising at first glance.
Then I remember that usually the Vegas bowl features the best mwc team versus a lower end pac 10 team and it kind of makes sense

Really the only thing surprising about this is that the MWC's best team is barely over .500 against the 5th or 6th best Pac-10/12 team.

I look at it this way as well.

Not only can you see it in that bowl record, we've seen it play out pretty much that way since Utah joined the PAC. Utah and TCU were the two best programs from the MWC and the first few years in a P5 conference, they struggled to get up to par. I feel Utah is finally turning that corner and TCU is a little bit ahead of them. Obviously, TCU has a flat-out better team than Utah this year, but they were also helped by the Big 12 not being as deep as the PAC in 2014.

You'll have some exceptions (2004, 2008 Utes and a couple of the TCU squads), but normally, I think it's safe to say that the best MWC team is going to be the 5th, 6th, or 7th best PAC school in any given year.

I also think the 6-7 record is a product of the MWC schools being much more excited to be facing a PAC school in their bowl game. Even if Utah is "up" and "ready" for CSU, no way the Rams get their attention as much as a bigger school would.

Just leaked: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma state are moving to the PAC12(soon to be PAC16) starting next season. Poor zoobs LOL

Maybe I am underestimating them but I just don't think the MWC was that good this year. Fresno State looked awful against us and they finished 5-3 in conference. Boise State and Colorado State both failed the Air Force test that we had to face every year that we managed to win just about every time. Utah State went through how many different QB's and still cruised through many of their games. We'll see how they fare in their bowl games but I'm predicting they won't do very well, Boise getting bumped up to the Fiesta Bowl won't help their case even if it gives them some extra $$$.

I tend to agree with you. Looking through CSU's games, they don't look like world beaters by any stretch. Their best non-conference win was Boston College and defensively they had games where they gave up over 450 yards to Wyoming and 300 yards rushing to New Mexico.

I'm not going to buy an excuse such as "Utah didn't want to be there" should the Utes lose. Grayson is a dangerous QB and if Utah let's him get in a rhythm, they could be in trouble, but this CSU team is not comparable to some of the more talented Boise/TCU/Utah/BYU teams of MWC past.
