2015 Annual JazzFanz All-Time NBA Draft

C - Rudy Gobert (7'2")
(Future multiple time All-Star. Future MVP. Future Finals MVP. Robbed for DPOY due to fanatical liberals. Best season 8 PT, 9.5 REBm 1 AST, 1 ST, 2.3 BL, 60% FG)

This is nice and all, but we are drafting players at their peak, not for what they should have been and not for what they are going to be.

So, you have 8 ppg, 9,5 rpg, 2.3 bpg Gobert, not the future one. Obviously you are playing to the homer crowd, it is what it is.

Or he could have the post Kanter Gobert that was putting up insane numbers after he was inserted into the starting lineup

I love Gobert, one of his biggest fans, but his numbers this year aren't anything compared to the peak numbers of a lot of centers in this draft.

Didn't he average 13-15 rebounds and 3 blocks or something close to that once he became a starter. He already looked like a top 3 rim protecter in his first chance to start.

Luckily I have one of the few guys that had his way with Gobert last year in Cousins.

Dude he is my backup center. You acting like you discount the entire team due to the backup center. And anyone who watched him play last year knows he can hold his own in that role. One of the best at the rim defensive performances in decades.

Edit: but it does say something to the strength of my team when THAT is the weak link you choose to nitpick. A guy that showed he has all-world talent defensively playing in a backup role. Works for me. Bring it.

I was wondering who would take Gobert. I think he is perfect for this. If you can't get one of the premiere centers I think you should trade your fourth and fifth pick up to get a higher caliber player elsewhere and take a defensively minded center late. Srsly I would be totally confident starting him next to 4 offensive studs.

Even if Gobert doesn't improve one iota, barring injury, he will go down as one of the great defensive centers. Gobert is the real deal.

Not to mention the impact he had on the team once he was inserted into the starting lineup.

Agreed. I was thrilled he was still on the board when I had my 4 picks out of 6 that solidified my squad. I feel good about my chances in this really.

For those who may have forgotten...

But under rookie coach Quin Snyder this season, he’s emerged as a budding star on the defensive end. Gobert is holding opponents to a league-best 37.1 percent at the rim and the Jazz defense improves by 8.5 points per 100 possessions when the second-year center is on the floor.

Nylon Calculus’ new rim protection metrics also sing his praises, as he leads the league in Points Saved per game (2.86) by a full point.

Even when Gobert’s not blocking shots though, his terrifying length is helping force opponents into comically bad shot selection.

Big men of such a mobile breed are rare. More slender and flexible frontcourt players such as Nerlens Noel and Gorgui Dieng have burst onto the scene the last couple years, but none play with the same combination of lumbering size, alarming quickness and proficient footwork that Gobert does.

I think Gobert is in a position to stand against a lot of these guys in this competition. He showed tremendous ability to mop up misses, swat and alter shots, and finish at the rim on put-backs. Watch Isiah Thomas set him up for lob after lob. Watch LBJ, Lillard and Vinsanity run fast break after fast break with Gobert trailing the play for the dunk after starting it all off with a weakside block or rebound. I think he would have more of an impact than folks think.

I think Gobert was a great pick.

I hate this idea that a player has to play a full career and put up a lot of stats to have their talents appreciated.

Sorry, I got off work late and then fell asleep.

But I take...

The first player ever to hit 1,000 3 pointers...

He was the 3 point contest winner in 1989...

An All-Star...

His best season he averaged:

(this was in 1989)

27.5 points - 4.2 rebounds - 2.0 assists - 48% from 3 on 4.1 attempts per game
