What's new

2015 Annual JazzFanz All-Time NBA Draft

Let's go a different route now, just for fun.

DAMIAN LILLARD

2014-15 Per-Game Stats: 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.2 blocks, 22.8 PER

At what point do we start putting Damian Lillard up in that category of sharp-shooting point guards that's occupied by Stephen Curry and no one else?

How about now?

See if you can guess which player is which:

Player A: 40.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc on 6.5 attempts per game
Player B: 41.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc on 7.6 attempts per game
Player A is a bit inferior, and that would be Lillard.

But still, they're at least comparable players from downtown, especially because Lillard is similarly adept—though again, not quite on the same level—at creating shots off the bounce. He and Curry are, after all, the only two players in the league hitting at least 40.5 percent of their tries and taking 6.5 deep looks per contest.

Throw in a bit of everything else and some slowly improving defense, and you have an elite point guard, even at just 24 years of age.

2x All-star, only 3 years in.

BOOM BITCHES!!

Good pick. I took him last year. You should post the video of him hitting the playoff game winner against Houston. Great moment for a young franchise player.

Why Log. Horrible trade for u. Wade is one of the premier sg's is a winner. Carter is just a talented athlete who didn't always bring it 100% of the time

Disagree. Log needed shooters and Carter provides that. He shouldn't have drafted Wade to begin with if he's going to go with 4 inside scorers, but since he did, this trade is better than doing nothing. And he advanced two of his picks considerably to pick a stronger bench.

I agree with this post for the most part. Log gave up too much value for this competition.

I think in real life it's not that big of a difference. Vince Carter was special even if he's not known for winning rings. Him and Tmac are both extremely underrated around here.

I love Wade and think he's better than Carter, but it's not by much. Carter was a better shooter. Just as dynamic as Wade if not more.

And next....

KEVIN LOVE

I have always been a Kevin Love fan. This picture shows why. He is a dirty player that will do what it takes to win. And he can shoot lights out from the PF spot. This is my new starting PF, allowing Kemp to move to the bench for a strong defensive punch at the 4 off the bench.

2014-15 Per-Game Stats: 17.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.4 blocks, 18.6 PER

Here comes the Kevin Love we're used to seeing, even if his defensive woes are ultimately problematic on a Cleveland Cavaliers roster utterly devoid of rim-protecting presences. Love was fairly atrocious at the start of the year, finding more iron than twine when he let fly from the perimeter and looking quite uncomfortable on both ends of the floor.

But that seems to be in the past now.

The 26-year-old power forward has adjusted rather nicely, and that's coincided with a run of resiliency from the surging—but still up-and-down—Cavs. In his past six games, he's averaged 20.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, but he's also shot a scorching 55.8 percent from the field and connected on 41.2 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. Those are the types of numbers Cleveland would love to see from him while Kyrie Irving and LeBron James draw so much defensive attention away from Love and allow him to shoot with more space than he ever enjoyed in Minnesota.

3X All Star

Also, from an article in 2013:

I'm just going to keep repeating it until everyone else starts agreeing with me: Kevin Love is the best power forward in basketball, and really, it's not even all that close right now unless you want to convince me LeBron James is really a 4 now.

To win an MVP, or even truly compete for it, you have to be on an elite team. As Tom Haberstroh of ESPN.com researched while making an early case for Anthony Davis, the average number of wins an MVP's team has is 61.6. And while the Wolves are solid, they aren't winning 60 games.

But look at Love's production: 26.4 points, 15.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and the second best PER in the league.

BOOM PART II BITCHES!!

My thoughts were peak season to peak season, which is really what this game is about, they are not that far off. And anyone alongside LBJ is going to elevate his game. So Carter + LBJ is not that far off of Wade anyway. Plus I get a glut of picks before the next huge drop-off in talent level.

And hell it is all for fun anyway. Wait until you see my next 2 picks.

Personally I'm ok with it. I really like Vince Carter, and if we could really somehow bring back all the old players and have them square off, I would love to have Vince Carter. Because I know he was dominant. Just never played with the right people. It's hard as hell to win rings, and not all the greats do, as we know first hand.

But in this competition he won't get much love. There are a lot of dumb fans around here who wouldn't know a good player really looks like. It's a lof anti-hopper thinking. But the truth is, having great athleticism gives you a big advantage in basketball.

I've had Vince a couple times, and have seen a lot of people scoff at him. So good luck. I would have picked him a long time ago if fans were voting correctly.

LogGrad with the curve ball. Good pick on Love - although, I'd use him as a 6th man because we already know he struggles with LeBron and he'd be fantastic off the bench as a dynamic scorer. . . but that's just me.
