3. Cat Barber - 4.50%
4. Perry Ellis - 4.60%


I might run a correlation test of body fat% to All-Star selections or even draft position.

It's not even healthy to have a body fat% below 5%.

I'm not an expert on this, and I might be wrong, but I think athletes want to maintain at least 5% body fat.
 
Jakob Poeltl is going to fly up draft boards after the combine. Krystkowiak said that Poeltl had a 38 in vertical and was the most athletic big he has coached. NOW, I get that K has something to sell, but if what he says is true, and a 7 footer can move and jump like that...Poeltl might jump up to the top 5, maybe even to the third pick.

Could you imagine a front court of the Brow and Poeltl? Deadly.

Anyways, it will be fun to see how he tests out.

He's in every top 10 mock I've seen, so not like he's getting slept on.

3-4% is the essential fat. It depends on the sport and the position but being 4-6% for a basketball player is healthy and fine generally. Above 10% for most players in most positions is where it would start to get concerning.

At the combine most players come in between 5 and 12 percent (majority in the 6-8 range).

Lyles was the highest % last year drafted in the 1st round at 12.1%.

Lyles wasnt in the best shape. He was one that needed to put on some muscle and workout harder along with others. Not really the best place to look at ideals. That is just what Rookies are coming in at.

Its not a red flag, especially if you are a big man. It is something to look into and see why they are there if its a wing or guard player though and they should get lower. Most of the players on that list are not in ideal shape though. That doesnt mean they cant perform at a high level but they probably could do better. Also I assume these are the rookie BF numbers being posted. Plenty of players can be outside of it. Especially if you are a big guy in the league and need to hold your ground then it will be higher bf%. There is still an ideal to be. It shouldnt be a reason not to draft a player you like though. This is something for the staff to look at.

Point is 4-5% body fat is not too low for an NBA player. It is within the healthy range. Most centers you would want more fat to sustain impact and prevent injury. As a professional in the Sports Performance Industry for about a decade and having worked with NBA players I feel pretty comfortable with that statement.

Chase B was over 10% but pudgy Deron while he was here claimed to be like 5-6%. Gtfo. Who's testing these guys? Stevie Wonder?

It is commonly suggested that 5 percent body fat for men and 12 percent for women are the minimum required for healthy endocrine and immune function.
