2017 Exit Interviews

So I'm listening to Hayward's exit interview. It would be very easy for him to say something present tense like, "I love playing in Utah. I'd love to come back." He's talking as though he's completed a chapter with Utah and he's "...looking forward to what's next."

I get the sense that he's excited about his future, but he's not saying anything that sounds like he's committed to Utah.

The one exception is at the very end where he says he's "looking forward to coming back better next year ready to go." That at least includes the phrase "coming back."

Holy ****! I just listened to Rodney's interview. This part was even worse than Genessy summarized it. He sounded frustrated and he said the team won a lot of games with him starting. He repeated several times "I'm a starter". I didn't expect this type of statement from him.

Well if you are a starter, Rodney, lets see you improve your game and your consistency and we can talk about it next season.

Confidence is good, but health and consistency are needed to continue to start. Hopefully this is the beginning of that. I think Hood can be similar to Khris Middleton. But he has to prove it on the court.

He has a huge point though. His split starter/bench numbers are pretty dramatic. I think part of it might be his mentality. Maybe he tries to force it too much when he comes off the bench, trying to prove himself too much and not letting the game come to him.

I am not particularly worried about his starter status. I think he lost his spot mainly becaise of injuries and because of Ingles raising his level, while Rodney's level was falling when he wasn't right physically. I don't think this will be long-term situation either way. I think when Rodney is healthy he's starter level player easily.

Ah, he came off the bench only 4 out of his 59 games this season...

my worry is that Rod slid back on a couple of things before the injury, viz. his reads out of the PnR + shooting consistency. Year-2 Rod had me stoked as hell.

No. But that's just an additional 11 games (in which he had the amazing PER of 4.7 in ~25 minutes). He was a starter the whole season, and his woes are purely on him.
