2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I like neto enough to not want to acquire Lin.
I mean if we are going to make a trade, which always carries a slight risk no matter how small the trade, then I want to get an obvious upgrade to the roster. Otherwise stand pat.

I mean right now we have 3 point guards that aren't all that good. Adding Lin and trading neto......... Would give us 3 point guards that aren't all that good.

Good points.

I have always thought Lin was a pretty decent player. In a lot of ways, I feel about the same about Ricky as I do Lin. Solid players, likeable guys.

If we are having any injury concerns about either Ricky or Exum, I feel a lot more confident about Lin than I do Neto. Neto just seems like a decent season player who would get absolutely exposed in the playoffs. I would also like to see how Lin fits before just signing him this summer.

Overall, I would rather pursue bigger fish....

I brought Lin up as an option to get out of Dante's contract when he was playing poorly too... I know the Jazz aren't really thinking that way about Dante, but I would think the Hawks would be a good place for Dante and I could see a Lin for Exum swap if we wanted to clear more space. His recent play certainly gives me some pause in just trying to dump him... and I'm sure the Jazz are even more confident with sticking by Dante now than they might have been earlier in the season.

His recent play (and Quin's comments) make this a no for me.

Not to mention we don't really have the contracts to make a deal work without a bunch of players involved.

I agree... was just bringing up a scenario where Lin would work... we could trade Exum for Lin straight up... but outside of that it'd have to be Favs (no), Ricky (no), Thabo and others (nah)

If Ricky tore his hamstring then I could see us doing a straight swap if we didn't have interest in retaining him this offseason. Outside of something terrible happening its a no.

Yep.

Ah, yes, but the problem of always buying high and selling low. We never seem to want to sell when we're sorta, kinda, maybe, iffy, ish, almost high-like.

I would probably be fine with selling high... the Jazz never would... they also weren't interested in selling low... they aren't sellers... they are holders

And you have some of the keep-it-on-the-shelf-and-let-it-go-bad people. We've done a fair amount of that. Props on the Korver deal for not doing that.

just looked at Tankathon... The last two East playoff teams should really consider a stealth or hard tank... it likely changes as a few West teams may enter the tank race but you drop from 15 to 8 by only being a few wins better than the other teams... that isn't terrible/catastrophic, but you lose out on an 8-10ish percent chance at Zion and a 25-30%ish chance at a top 4 pick. Not really worth it just to get pummeled by Milwaukee or Toronto.

Charlotte and Detroit should absolutely become sellers and tankers. Kickstart the rebuild by moving on from Kemba and Blake (maybe not Blake but they should consider it strongly). They are capped out and don't really have a young guy that could pop immediately. They are a few parts away and in Charlotte's case they are either going to pay the tax (not bloody likely on MJ's watch), lose Kemba for nothing, or have to sell off draft assets to get out from bad contracts they took on or handed out. They don't have much hope of getting out of the bottom playoff teams in the East and have guys that are in their prime and playing well enough that they can't get top tier young talent.

They have an opportunity to bypass an awful playoff series and increase the value of their own pick substantially, while also collecting assets, and getting out of a financial bind.
