2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Did anyone happen to catch Locke's podcast this morning? I clicked on the link but there's no audio. Apparently he took a look at D'Angelo Russell as a possible trade target for the Jazz.
Consider me underwhelmed.

I don't necessarily disagree that rozier would be an upgrade to Rubio. What I'm saying is that I don't really want to replace a guy who I think sucks with a guy who I think also sucks but just a little less.
I would rather get a good player.

Rozier isn’t an upgrade to Rubio. Not much of a playmaker, not a smart player, takes loads of dumb shots. He might be a better shooter, but his low iq negates that particular advantage.
Rubio, Thabo and our 2019 1st (top 18 protected) for Hardaway and Frank. http://tradenba.com/trades/HkV1WXgeN

If NY used our pick to dump Lee, they would have around $65 million to pursue KD and another. And their tank could be epic.

Frank is the only guy I think Mitchell is okay with trading Rubio for. Maybe Rozier, but Frank would be celebrated by Donovan.

Rozier isn’t an upgrade to Rubio, at best they are a push, with Rubio by a nose. Lmfao at people wanting to trade Rubio for Frank, oh my good god, the idiots!! I’m all for upgrading at pg, but those two ain’t it, period!!

I dont even think its necessarily a point guard problem. Point guards generally dont push you over the hump to win championships anyways. What we need is another dominant scorer who can push us through when we are having trouble scoring. Donavan is great, but he needs a sidekick. Preferably a taller one. We dont have anyone who can help him. Ingles is great, but isnt going to take over a game.

Lets see, do we know of any available players who are big and who are really good at scoring? Can you think of any names that come to mind Thee?

Let’s trade Exum for Fultz.

- Exum gets to go somewhere “away from Quin” and play with his BFF Simmons.
- Exum pimpers can move over to Sixers forums where they can ride Simmons’ and Exum’s nuts 24/7.
- JFC gets a new whipping boy that doesn’t come with a bunch of trolls and homers.
- Jazz effectively shave a year off Exum’s deal by exercising the termination option on Fultz after next year.
- Homey gets to keep us apprised of the Stars’ title hunt.
- Neto can get a confidence boost knowing he’s higher on the depth chart than a former first pick.

I would argue that Rozier is an upgrade for the following reasons:

#1 - he defends better. The argument could end right here, but I'll keep going
#2 - even in his "down year" so far this year, Rozier and Rubio have similar offensive production. Rubio gets more assists, but Rozier gets more rebounds, shoots better from 3, and has less turnovers.
#3 - I like the idea of Mitchell having the ball more. Rozier isn't as ball dominant as Rubio

So from style and defense, I would take Rozier.

If the question is whether or not Jabari is better than who we have, then it depends on exactly who he’s better than. Or rather, would you trade those players for him.

I wouldn’t trade favors for Parker.
I probably wouldn’t trade Crowder, because the drop off on D would be huge, and we’d have to add in other things.
I’d maybe trade Exum, but I doubt the jazz would. I’m more optimistic about Dante than many though.

And if the jazz wanted Jabari, they probably could have gotten him last year.

I just see his career trajectory as more similar to Jahlil Okafor than Tobias Harris. And I don’t think the opportunity cost of not making a move for a Mirotic level guy instead of Parker is worth it.

I would take a chance on Parker, but I wouldn't take him via trade. I would want to sign him after he clears waivers.

I would rather have Favors. However, a trade of Favors opens up a chance for a guy like Jabari.

I'm kind of torn on him. I hate guys that seem like they are selfish and immature. He may have overcome some of his LA BS. Maybe being in a small market like Utah will help him... the Joakim Noah effect... LA and NY are "too lit".

The idea of what he could be in an ideal scenario if he reached his ceiling is really great. Dude is talented. Has had some injury issues too that could have stunted him a bit. IDK... would be a significant gamble.

I do get the impression that him and DM are cool (DM is cool with almost everyone). they seemed to have a long exchange last time we played and had some playful video game twitter banter.

Just listened... his case is this -

- Hes a good catch and shoot 3P% 40% less good on ball
- So how does he do with another combo PG kinda like DM... and it was better.
- Good off screens and DHO... so maybe he needs to have the ball less to maximize his skills.
- He picked him because he is fairly sure the Jazz wouldn't consider him so he couldn't be accused of dropping insider knowledge.

I wouldn't trade for him unless the cost was close to nothing. I think he could be had with a good FA offer unless he explodes at some point during the rest of the year.

We don't get a chance at D'Angelo Russell type guys through free agency. Honestly, we usually don't get a chance at guys like him period. I think it's worth the gamble. Seems like he would be a good fit next to Donovan.
