2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

The Jazz had no chance to top that 76ers offer. Because we don't have a valuable asset like that Miami unprotected pick to offer.

This is a reason why I keep saying that I'm okay if the Jazz do make a trade for Conley. There are a limited number of players who make us a better. That list gets even shorter when you factor in who is actually obtainable. We all thought Harris was was on that list but another team had an offer we couldn't match. I bet that happens a lot. If we have the best offer for Conley, then the time to act is now. It's better to be proactive on a deal that makes you better than reactive waiting for something better (that may never come).

I'm just happy that there is a pathway for adding Conley and Gallo while keeping Favors, all the while the Lakers getting screwed. Couldn't ask for more.
I don't know if that pathway exist because:
1. Memphis doesn't seem to desperate to deal
2. Gallinari might not be gettable if they deal their first to get Conley (don't get the sense the Jazz want to give up two first)

I think its an either/or situation, not an and.

Memphis isn't desperate, but are considering options. We'll see what happens, but I'm thinking Lowry isn't enticing Memphis.

I think we got to get creative. Like this Philly deal, we need to be aggressive and think outside the boxes where we all are looking right now.

Maybe Conley is a smoke screen for Lowry (who we liked before).
Maybe we get involved in some salary dump where we get long term value (Miami, Detroit, Charlotte).

Thabo and Udoh are prime expirings. Great value in the current market.

It puts the ball back in Simmons' hands more often which is what you want (especially if he gets a jumper, dude will be special)

He will never get a jumper. He’s played basketball his whole life and still can’t shoot. It’s always going to limit his ceiling.

I don't see Utah making a salary dump move as they aren't in that mindset UNLESS the value for them is so stupidly astonishing they can't pass it up. Utah has busted its butt to keep flexibility as its Prime Directive, so no reason to tie it up long term beyond Mitchell's rookie deal. Assuming trajectory holds, Utah HAS to do something in a year or two, but SHOULD so something sooner rather than later as in the offseason. This deadline might be a bust dealwise, but Utah doesn't have to make a trade.
