2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

Davis for Baynes. Phoenix gets a great lockerroom guy they know is signed through next year at a fair price. We get a tough, expiring big man who can hit the occasional 3.

He's not great and is streaky... its hopefully a good upgrade over Niang though... better rebounder, better defender, worse shooter
If we just wanna get rid of Niang, both maker and Josh Jackson will do just that with much better upside given Carroll is way past his prime at this point, and without us having to make the commitment to another two seasons of bad contract.

I don't just want to get rid of Niang. Carroll's contract is really only 2 years... final year is only like $1M guaranteed.

He might be washed, but he was functional last year. San Antonio has too many guys at 4 and too many on the wing to get him run.

You make a solid point though... there is a little more money on that deal... maybe we can tease a second out of them.

Just go and get Crowder back .. Memphis are willing to move him ..

Ed + future 2nd round

Jae wouldn’t be required to shoot as much this time around ...Just defend and rebound , bring his usual hustle
We can't re-acquire him in trade... NBA rules don't allow it for a year.

Doesn't matter who we go for, we all should agree that the FO has to do something with Ed before the trade deadline. Our timeline is simply too tight to be paying 2 year of MLEs for a non-rotational big. They got rid of Jeff Green pretty fast. Don't know what took so long to get rid of Ed

Lol, Carroll is even more unplayable than Ed this year... Given his current age and conditions shown over the course of last two season, it's safe to say that his career of being a good NBA basketball player is pretty much over. but he still have three years left on his contract... I'd rather experiment with Maker or Jackson's expering contract. Low risk high reward versus carroll's high risk low reward

Thon sucks... I'd move Ed for any expiring contract doe...

Houston is looking to trade Clint Capela - makes me think they are betting on 5 out the rest of the way, going small with great spacing. Should be interesting to see how that works out for them come playoff time.

Thon Maker could be just what we need. His best years were in Milwaukee as a player in a system. A shot blocking 7 foot PF who also hits over 30% from beyond the arc? Could be a good fit for the Jazz.

It's partly a money deal and he's their only tradeable asset. I think they get Roco and another replacement level center... I think it can work against us, but I'm guessing its less effective against the LA teams.

It does make me wonder why we feel the need to play a traditional backup center.

We don't need thon for anything more than a defensive specialist. He's not consistent enough on D to warrant more PT, but like 10min a night or less when we need to make some defensive stops. He’s shown in the past that he could do just that, as recent as yesterday against the nuggets in TO. And we don't have a player on this team who can provide switch defense like him. Would you trust to put Niang or Bradley on Jokic when Rudy is out with 6 fouls?

Quin is the best defensive coach in the league, and Thon has all the tools to be elite defensively but has been underused or misused by his coaches in the past. Putting those two together I can certainly hope for something magical to happen

I choose Juwan Morgan over all three. Makers rebounding numbers are really bad for a “defensive specialist”. Other than occasionally hitting a few threes he doesn’t excite me...

I’m cool with doing something but that isn’t the something I’d do... honestly Ed is a better option imo.

If we had Maker, I’d like to see if Boler calls him Snell again. Of course, I’d also like to hear Boler refer to Thurl as Matt again.

I'm not sure how it will work against the other western conference playoff teams but it sure as hell seems to work against us. I'd be terrified to face them in the playoffs again.

Tony Jones just posted a good article in The Athletic about the deadline. There isn’t anything new that hasn’t already been discussed on jazzfanz. But a good article Nonetheless.
