2020 Presidential election

When did we learn about meddling? We've known since 2012 at least and did nothing. Why do you think that is? Shouldn't we have stopped it there?

Are you making this up?

Focus on the issue. Everyone. Let me repeat. EVERYONE knows it is going on today. Except for one person. He believes Vlad. Because if he does not believe Vlad it means he must accept that Vlad gave him the presidency and therefore he is illegitimate.

Does this concern you? Just a little?

Where’s your evidence? You claimed in the other thread that you wanted to discuss issues. So where’s your evidence that “we’ve known since 2012 that our elections have been meddled with?”

Facts first: While there is evidence that the Obama administration struggled with how to deal with Russia's election meddling, it did make attempts to get Russia to stop, and also to tell the American public about what the Russians were up to. Those attempts appear to have had little to no impact on Russia's behavior, and the public did not fully grasp the extent of the meddling until well after the election.

I'm guessing CNN is trustworthy right?

Give me a minute for more proof.

I, like most on this board, already knew that Obama and leaders from both chambers of Congress knew in mid fall 2016 that Russia was interfering. Obama wanted to go public but Mitch McConnell then torpedoed that by claiming that he’d make it political. Obama (unfortunately) backed down.

You claimed that they were interfering in 2012. I have yet to read anything that supports your claim.

I take it NPR is a reliable source as well.

So why didn't Obama's administration do more?
That isn't clear. Some former administration officials who have talked about it publicly have reproached themselves for not acting more aggressively. There also was a long-standing criticism of Obama that his foreign-policy making amounted to endless process with no outcomes — hours of meetings that yielded more meetings but no ultimate action.

Plus, the relationship between the United States and Russia is multifaceted and often intensely complicated:

  • Obama scaled back missile defense plans in Europe to placate Moscow.
  • Obama wanted Russia to play a role in the international agreement under which Iran agreed to restrict its nuclear program — and Putin went along.
Bolded an underlined has been even suggested by his own staff. I hope to find the reliable link. If true Iran was more important that his own country, right?

This link also doesn’t say anything about 2012.

Maybe you should reread your post?

Obama cyber chief confirms 'stand down' order against Russian cyberattacks in summer 2016

The comments by Michael Daniel, who served as White House “cyber security coordinator” between 2012 and January of last year, provided his first public confirmation of a much-discussed passage in the book, “Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump,” co-written by this reporter and David Corn, that detailed his thwarted efforts to respond to the Russian attack.

I’ve read this book. It’s a fine one. Have you read it?

Says nothing about Russian interference in 2012.

Regardless, that wasn't my point. I'm still trying to find my sources but for now I'll take the loss on that one. You're literally saying "I actually hope this happens(foreign interference). Democrats receiving help via foreign assistance is the only way to convince republicans that we need to pass election security".

First off, that's pretty extreme. Second neither party did anything while given the opportunity. In your opinion why didn't Obama get this stopped? 2012 or not this entire thing was under his watch.
