2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

Some of Givony’s mock draft and intel. He has is taking Jaden Springer at 30

  • NOLA Pelicans Looking to Trade Down for More Vets - "Several NBA teams say the Pelicans are exploring trading down or out from this slot, looking for veteran contributors who can help them make a playoff run next season."
  • Atlanta Hawks Preferring Cost-controlled Contracts - "The Hawks may look to restart the cycle by moving one of their rookie-scale-contract players, such as Cam Reddish, for a first-round pick, as it's unlikely that they'll be able to pay all of their young players."
  • Utah Jazz Looking to Shed Some Salary - "The Jazz reportedly have some luxury tax concerns they may look to address on draft night, potentially by dangling one of the veterans, such as Joe Ingles, for a draft pick."
Maybe I am overthinking Joe's future. Maybe he stays in the states for a few more years and collects checks... he just seems like 75% of the time he'd rather be in Australia with his family. I think he would hate moving his kids and I would think an acquiring team would factor that into the price. Like with JJ Reddick last year.

I also think it would rip part of the heart and soul out of this squad for Joe to be traded for a first. I guess if he is leaving in a year anyway it would be shrewd to get some future value for it. It just doesn't feel good at all.

I will be shocked if anyone besides Favors is moved to shed salary.

Wieskamp gets a lot of hate on defense because he's a white guy who looks like Duncan Robinson but here's KOC's blurb about his D in the "strengths" part

  • A competitive defender who shined at the combine, displaying NBA-level quickness on the perimeter and physicality inside as a rebounder.

I don't mind him, but I think he gets drafted near the mid 2nd round. He can do some Kevin Huerter things.

OKC has three 2nd round picks with a couple high in the 2nd round. I wonder if our pick might be headed there.
Unless a prospect I wasn't expecting was there at #30, I'm all for trading down to get 2nd's to get better contracts. I also don't think there's a stark drop off in quality in this draft after you get through the first 20'ish picks or so.

Hoopshype is posting this ludicrous sounding rumor that the Lakers turned down SGA and the number 6 pick for Kyle Kuzma. See below.

Lol that’s hilarious. The dude who originally tweeted it is an OKC writer and he did it as an obvious joke.
Good grief my sense of humor has vanished today. I was under the impression he was serious. Probably because I’m under a deadline to finish a book chapter and am working like crazy. Excuses, excuses, I know.

Lol don’t sweat it! It’s just funny that it actually got aggregated.
