2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

But all it takes is one team and if Utah gave him the contract they gave him, you have to think there was another team willing to come close to that. Favors did have a really solid regular season stats wise. Per 30 minutes he was right around 11-11-2-1-1 on efficient shooting. I think a team like the Lakers could really use him. He gives them what Drummond can give defensively without the terrible offensive decision making and the entitlement of being a starter.

That's the list of free agent centers. There arent any studs available in UFA. Favors is right there with most of these players.

  • Zeller really good, but cant never stay healthy
  • Holmes is a rising energy big
  • Someone will always be enamored with the talent of Drummond/Whiteside despite them being negatives
  • Lopez is reliable but aging
  • Boban is fun but cant play a lot
  • Kanter is good at what he does and awful at what he doesnt
  • Theis is a solid player, probably close to Favors level and some may prefer him for his shooting

Everyone else is right at replacement level or below though from what I can tell. Favors may be the most solid of all these centers. Maybe someone is willing to take the slight overpay for a reliable 20 mpg center who doesnt have huge holes, but idk.

List of teams who need center help (my estimation by glancing):
  • Charlotte
  • Toronto
  • Dallas
  • Portland (Only saying because Nurkic always seems to be hurt and it's the last year of his cheap deal)
  • LA Lakers

Here's Roko just a few months ago -- 38 pts, 6 3PMs, 10 rebs. He's got a bit of Gordon Hayward and a bit of Kevin Love to him, and he's only 18 y.o. I'd have a hard time seeing the Jazz pass on him if he's available at #30.

He has 2 knocks against him that will cause the jazz to pass. 1, he seems to be pretty athletic, and the jazz like something way more than athleticism. No one really knows what that thing is but it leads them to athletically limited role players with low low ceilings. And 2, he's not an upper class man. The jazz have shown that by drafting at least 2nd or 3rd year players, preferably seniors, they can get a guy that they will give minutes to because there is no way he played in college for 4 years without superior basketball skills. Or something.

Otherwise that guy looks great.

If add Washington... gafford is good but Bryant is hurt... like not back until mid year. Lopez is likely gone. Also Sacramento.

Herb Jones a choke artist lmao. I was so embarrassed for him in the UCLA game. Big time case of the yips

I feel the Jazz should trade down, into the 2nd rd to acquire more picks. There's still a lot of good players to be had after the 1st rd. Maybe trade the 30th pick to teams like OKC, New Orleans or Detroit. They all have 2 2nd rounders from 31st to 42nd.
Yeah, repeat the 2018 draft and get 3 players Quin will never play in the 2nd round
