2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

I doubt he’ll be able to remotely defend the good wings in the league though. I mean, the rebounding numbers alone are a major red flag. Even if he is planted at the 3 point line.
I think he has a chance at guarding wings. Did you watch the game video I posted? I don't think the movement skills are at issue. It will just be the strength, desire, and experience to do it that he needs to prove at the NBA level.

I did. I like what I see offensively. But as good as he looked, his stats aren’t really that impressive. Why is that? I’m guessing he’s not the strongest of mind. Idk.

I'm starting to think that #30 is going to come down to Ayo Dosunmu, Vrenz Bleijenberg and Greg Brown.
Assuming that Roko, Thor and Murphy are gone.

So @Saint Cy of JFC have you put your "Cy's Guis" stamp of approval on anyone in particular this year yet?

Joe Wieskamp is the one I've been higher on than anyone else since his Freshman year. He's getting more hype now that he had a good combine. He's this year's Kuzma-y type pick.

Josh Christopher and Jaden Springer are two dudes who I'm high on who have been mocked as dropping. If they are somehow are there at 30, I would take either of them over basically anyone who has a chance to be available.

Then guys like Thor/Murphy/Roko are dudes I'm also high on who could be in the Jazz's range if they get lucky.

I'm super high on Moses Moody, but he's way out of the Jazz's range. He's the one guy I would advocate giving up stuff to move up for if he somehow slips out of the lottery, but I don't think it's really feasible. To me Moody is a top 5 guy who I've seen going as late as 15 in some mocks, but I assume he's going to go lottery near guaranteed.

Also Yves Pons would be a deep sleeper for me. Not every mock has him being drafted, but he's an elite small ball 5 type defender. He's probably the only legitimate 1-5 defender in the draft and he's an absolute freak athlete with insane strength and mobility.

Has there been a player that you’ve whiffed on in the past couple of years? I feel like guys you’ve really hyped or stood behind have turned out pretty good.

You think Pons could handle (nominally) playing the 5 full time? I know 0 besides what you just mentioned and some surface level metrics, but 6’ 6” 215 doesn’t look like it would hold up on the surface and his shooting looks like it’s regressed (not a great sign that it’s going to come along).

If he can hold down the backup nominal 5 spot OR can believably develop a catch-and-shoot 3, then it sounds like a great prospect.

All the dudes that excite me most and could reliably be available at 30 (Vrenz, Murphy, Thor) seem like they could also be available in the 2nd round. Given that 2nd rounders have team-friendlier contracts and that the Jazz are certainly looking to dump Favors into cap-space and will have to send an asset(s), we should probably be thinking more about the 2nd round than #30.
