And what is logical about reaching to draft a 3rd string center with no chance to see the court? Are we also supposed to believe that they weren't high on other players that haven't hit? It reeks to high heaven that someone in this chain of information is cherry-picking, if not outright lying.

But this is a digression; I'm not sure I can trust hindsight scoops from the FO's chosen mouthpiece.

Yes, the Udoka choice is certainly a digression for this particular discussion. It has nothing to do with the question at hand.

I understand Tony has his methods and priorities. But I'm not sure I'd automatically place this information into the "hindsight scoops" category. I'd still like to hear from him about when he learned these things.

Anyway, I'm sure we've run this convo into the ground.

For what it's worth, Jones was tweeting a lot about McDaniels pre-draft.

On draft day after the trade he said this, which kind of indicated he thought the Jazz were going in this direction with the pick:

I was actually going to suggest that the only thing worth looking at here is what was being reported at the time, so thanks for digging this up.

Seeing as we have to read tea leaves about what actually goes on behind closed doors, the lack of information about Doke suggests that perhaps Lindsey was never a source and that he did indeed unilaterally make the decision.

In any case, DAMN I am bummed we didn't get either. McDaniels looks like he could develop into the exact player the Jazz need(ed) to fill out the roster (and I was low on him).

I'm simply saying that information that he shares that puts a favorable spin on reality shouldn't be trusted since sharing unsavory information (which he may not have access to) would not be a rational personal/professional decision for him.

Put me in the camp that lol'z at the idea that they were high on every player that's hit in the NBA, but that they drafted the only dude that very much did not (and had no chance to, more importantly).

At the end of the day all NBA reporters have sources to protect. You have to decipher all information and kind of guess as to what actually happened.

I remember being really excited about Sene. Wanted him for Utah. Lean, athletic beast. Thor the same. Incredible ceilings. Could be total busts too.

Where was Sene drafted. I recall he went pretty high. Karl Malone even liked him I recall. The draft is a crapshoot even if you have a high pick. So guys look the part but cannot play a lick.

The Tea leaves are definitely being fed to us with a "Lindsey is to blame" direction.

He's the GM and final decision maker. We don't really need them fed to us to know Lindsey is to blame (and he's the one to praise to).

All he has to do is take what his sources tell him and report (selectively) that to the media, without criticism or serious questioning. His sources do not have to be honest with him, he does not have to call into question what they are telling him, and both are incentivized to maintain this dynamic (the team gets to leak info that puts a favorable spin on reality, Tony gets to have his scoops). The cherry on top is that if Tony knows unsavory information that he knows explicitly or assumes implicitly hurts his relationship with his team sources, then he can choose what to share and what not to.

Bones Hyland now being mocked to Utah at 30.

Good type of player to have long-term next to Mitchell. Not a point guard yet, but someone who can make some plays and ball-handle. Maybe the best shooter in the draft. Super deep range. His lack of strength limits his defensive versatility. I like his overall game a bit more than Desmond Bane, who is kind of his comp from last draft.

I watched a lot of film on him recently and see a lot of JC in him but would be terrified he would be hunted off the floor on D.

I don't know exactly what it is, but I don't like how Hyland's shot looks. It looks slow or shaky or something. I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't look reliable to me in the NBA.

The whole intrigue of JT Thor is that he's fluid enough to be a wing on both ends while having incredible size/length and a budding skillset.

Sene was just a really long guy dude who moved awkwardly and had a lot of defensive potential. He never had the potential skillset of a wing. He never had the potential to develop into anything more than a defensive center.

The comparison is flat out race based because they are both incredibly dark complexioned individuals.

Kinda sounds like you're the one basing the comparisons on race as you're literally the only one to have hinted that that is why somebody else can't like the guy you like.

Why can't someone just have a different opinion?
