2023 NBA Draft Megathread

If Whitmore somehow dropped to #9 its because there is some kind of unknown red flag. A dude with his profile should be nowhere near #9 in this draft. Not to say I wouldn't be thrilled if we got him there, but there would definitely be a reason that he fell. It will have to be a trade up if he is the level of prospect that he seems to be.

But that is pretty pricey... He would have to become a damn good player to justify that trade.
It won’t be cheap to move up. It’s usually only cheap to move up in the top ten if the draft is ***. This draft isn’t ***. Cam will go top 5… you’ll likely have to make a strong offer. I’d rather go 1 future pick and Ochai than give two future picks but if you don’t believe that Ochai is a future AS then you get labeled a hater. I could see teams more interested in a young player that is already ready to contribute… since they are trying to improve next year.

If your hand is only 8 inches wide I don't think you can palm the ball, at least not with any kind of control. If the measurement is true and not something he just sandbagged by not fully spreading his hand, he probably has to palm it with his wrist on dunks
I’m not even 6 feet and I can palm a ball. Ain’t worried about this at all.

Locke is a hard working guy and does have good connections/intel some times, but his opinions and more specially the way he delivers them is cringe.

I hated it when Locke tries to protect the Org. ala the “Jazz aren’t tanking” pod.

But I actually enjoy it when he’s free to wheel and deal with some of the crazier ideas.

I would do it without hesitation. I think he will be a star. Think of what it normally takes to trade for a star. Think of the gobert and donovan trades. 2 first round picks (one of which could end up in the second round) and ochai (basically another first) for a star is extremely cheap. Basically 3 first round picks. Normally to trade for a star you have to give up much much more. And that star is often disgruntled, on a short term contract, extremely expensive (salary wise), and older.

We would still have a million draft picks (including 2 more in this draft) and hella cap space to improve the team going forward.

Yea, if you’re in love with the guy and he is THE target, you’d have to do it. If you are just trading up to increase your options and are picking between a few different guys I’d be less enthused. Oh, to be a fly on Danny Ainge’s wall…

I'm not an expert, but I think the biggest knock on Whitmore is that you can see a bit of Julius Randall in him. Super talented and skilled, but a little inflexible in his team game. It is why Randall can be all NBA but the Knicks would move him pretty easily if given the chance. His "connectivity" score is low.

I haven't watched Whitmore enough to confirm that, but from what I have read there is concern by some for that reason.

I think it is a pretty large nit pik.
