2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I agree, Miller has a higher floor and an easier/more likely path to a steady NBA role, but are we drafting for floors at 9? Just doesnt vibe with me.
No... but Miller's "floor" skills allow him to get on the court and there is a better chance he straightens out his one limiting factor than another prospect figuring out the list of 10 things he needs to so he can display his "superstar" talent.

Maturity stuff doesn't bother me as much as sucking at everything. His weaknesses at South Carolina could be listed as "the game of basketball". Imaturity is not great obviously, but if something holds him back it's going to be his talent/skill level. Not like he's Michael Beasley.

You don't get how this works. Miller has a clear weakness, shooting. If he had 10 weaknesses it is no longer a weakness. That's just potential baby!

It's not even a joke, I think some people would like Miller more if he sucked at more things.

The difference is he won’t play if he sulks in the NBA. He will get with it or he will be out, simple as that. That wasn’t happening at the school of his choice that is also a garbage and desperate program.
So... the guy who sulks in college... Is rewarded with millions of dollars to add to his ego... is going to find Jesus when he gets to the NBA and faces much stiffer competition/adversity? Maybe... but he might be Christian Wood, Hassan Whiteside that literally has to be out of the league before they decide to change.

I just wouldn't make that bet at 9.

Neither am I.

If Will can handle it then I would do it. If he can't then move on.

Will can only do so much. Will already told us playing time is earned not given... Not sure if GG will respond differently to the tough love I think Will would offer.

Having a good coach does not fix every flaw, personality or otherwise, a player has.

Ok but who are you taking at 9 then? Let's assume none of the projected top 8 drop to 9. Do you think Anthony Black or Cason Wallace have more potential than GG Jackson? I understand GG has his flaws. I don't think anyone is really disputing that. But who are you taking there that has more potential?

I personally don't want the Jazz to play it safe in the draft. Playing it safe leads to nice teams who can maybe make it to the second round of the playoffs but no further. I want a championship. Obviously we all do. Imo the best way to do that is swing for the fences even if we miss. At least we took the chance.

Ideally I'd love to get Brandon Miller or Cam Whitmore. But that probably isn't happening without overpaying to trade up. Taylor Hendricks probably isn't going to be there at 9 either. If the Jazz stay pat at 9 I think GG Jackson is the one player who offers the most potential. Is he boom or bust? Yes. But that's a risk we should take. I'm sick of nice teams who lose in the second round. Let's raise expectations and shoot higher
