2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Its lauri markennanish tbh.
Its weird for some not to see it on this site. I get not being a fan of him I guess but calling him a dime a dozen is loud wrong.

I see the problem. You are expecting to get a guy at 9 to build your team around which makes no sense. This is an elite role player draft and if you get a Grant or Kuzma caliber of player at 9 would be really solid.
I don't see it that way. The top 9 for me all have the athleticism or traits required in an All Star. Fit and opportunity will help them realize their abilities.

Look how many players, when given a chance, raise their profiles in the league. Some dont, but more often then not injuries give opportunity and opportunit makes stars.

Gobert rode the bench until Kanter got hurt. 1 year later Kanter was gone and Gobert became a beast.

Part of this draft SHOULD be about looking for the right fit from this 5 players. A guy who has the tools, but when given the opportunity to develop under Hardy and next to Lauri will be an all star. Because opportunity they will have.

God, the Taylor Hendricks hype from Andy Larsen is beyond stupid.

Do not compare Hendricks to JJJ as a weakside protector.

JJJ averaged 3 blocks per game in 21 minutes per game. They arent comparable.
Yep, jjj better shot blocker and hendricks better three point shooter. Both good shooters and shot blockers though. Same strengths

There is on average a pretty steep drop in outcomes on average after the 5th pick. Teams that are clamoring for upside 5-10 often bust because they’d rather not miss a home run than hit a double. I don’t subscribe to that philosophy in this part of the draft, especially since we have multiple picks. There are high upside guys usually peppered throughout the draft. If it’s that important to do that, just draft GG at 16. But at 9 we need to get on base. Home runs mean more when you have guys on base.

Russillo gave like 20 seconds on Hawkins last night. And he sounds like a truly special shot maker. Would be shocked if he's not a productive NBA player.
Thats his problem. Like hendricks, he is already really good plus just won the championship. He needed to be a worse player with more mistique and therefore more potential to be drafted higher.

But also, JJJ is a big and Hendricks is a forward. I’m not offended by the idea of Hendricks being something like the JJJ of forwards in that he will block a lot of shots for his position(s) but he will not have the luxury of being camped at the rim so much.

I'm probably in the minority, but I wouldn't have an issue taking him at 9. Sure, I'd prefer to take him at 16, but I really don't see how he won't be a productive player.
