2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Across competitions Bilal shot 34% (119 attempts) from three and 71% (173 attempts) from the line. This is not me saying those numbers are great....but have you seen the shooting numbers for the rest of the top 10? Also not great.

This is the case for Hendricks. After Brandon Miller, who are we actually sure is going to be good from 3? Hendricks is the only one you can reasonably feel certain about as a shooter.

Those numbers are admittedly not bad at all. My question is what does he do better than Black besides that?

My Jazz top ten 5.5 hours out from draft time.

1. Wemby
2. Scoot
3. Miller
4. Amen
5. Black
6. Ausar
7. Walker
8. Whitmore
9. Bilal
10. Hendricks

4-8 is tough, like all those dudes.

To be clear, I have Black one spot above of Bilal, but in the same tier. They are much different players+prospects, however. With Bilal you're getting a wing, not a PG, and just way more length+athleticism. That allows him to be way more dynamic around the basket on offense and do different things on defense. He has the standing reach and wingspan of a big, but he's also a very good POA defender who puts in multiple efforts and gets around screens very well. I was sold on Bilal early, and it wasn't because he was dunking on the youth league. It was because of how NBA ready his defense looked.

As a PG, Black is way ahead of Bilal....but that's what would you expect. The contrast between these two is the guard skills (passing and handle in particular) which is major advantage to Black, but from a physical standpoint Bilal easily gets the edge. And that should be expected. The wing should have bigger dimensions and greater athleticism than the PG.

I'll also say this again, you are not drafting players for who they are today. A big part of Bilal's case is that the insane developmental trajectory he's been on will continue.

It's funny to me we always talk about how important taking risk are and how you need high level talent, but when push comes to shove and you got a guy with huge upside staring you in the face you can't make the pick.
