In what universe - according to your own assessment - does trading a player deserving of a haul in return not better ensure losses?

TBF, there are a lot of young players that have value in a trade and also don't help you win in the short term....Kessler is not one of those guys though. He definitely helps us win and is our second/third best player. He would help any team win that has a need at C.

I think certain teams will be highly motivated to trade for Kessler, and it's not just because they see him as a good young player. His current production compared to his current salary is really good.

A player I think we should trade for his own sake is Sexton. If he was going to breakout and become something beyond a sixth man type guard, it won't happen here. I think he's more likely to be traded than Clarkson. They have similar-ish salaries and similar potential destinations, but I think Sexton is more palatable.

I love Sexton. I love watching him. But I worry we lose him one way or another with this tank. Toggling his minutes is costing him some money at this point because he clearly deserves more minutes/opportunity on a team that is not trying to lose as much as possible. Have to get a good offer and I worry it might not be there as you might have teams that would pay less for the budget version of what they want from Sexton (big bench scorer). He's typecast and I don't agree with it, but I think that is where other teams would want him to play. My guess is that I would reject most of the actual offers that would come in for Collin if I knew what they were.

With Walker... if we continue to lose like we have the first couple games then DA has less reason to "settle" on a mid trade. Right now I would guess the price is prohibitive for other teams. If the Lakers gave another first and removed the protections from the first they already owe... that would be my floor offer I'd accept rn.

If we can somehow walk the line of getting like the 4th/5th best odds while keeping Lauri/Walker/Sexton AND we get extremely lucky on lotto night... then you can have a big bounce up the standing next year if they want. If the plan is to tank this year and next year (and lets be honest DA hates "plans") regardless of how lotto night plays out... go ahead and move Sexton and Walker for something solid now. Pray Lauri sees the long term vision and rides it out.

Some people believe the pivot to trying to win will be this upcoming off season. I'm fairly skeptical of that and currently think the pivot will be the 2026 off season. The truth is it's probably TBD.

IF the pivot really happens this upcoming off season, then you probably want to keep Kessler and Sexton as functioning rotation players.

I think moving usage from Key to Collin and moving minutes from Patty to Collin is anti-tank tho... not sure it swings games but I do wonder if some of this stuff is Hardy being a tank commander.

I have seen Collin get selfish a couple times the first two games and partly cuz I think he gets looked off by a couple of our guards (cough JC/Key cough) then goes into "my turn" mode. Its a tough spot to be in and I think he's taking the brunt of our "developmental" season.

At the same time if the best offers are like a mid first and some questionable returning salary... hard pass.

We do know that the FO has tried to do that two off seasons in a row….or at least we have strong reason to believe so. DA said we did the half tank last year because we almost got someone and we needed a team around almost guy. This summer it was reported that we were in on a Mikal+PG plan but it didn’t work out. Maybe that’s all BS, but I think it’s likely that we did try and whiffed.

Perhaps we want to try again, and in that case it makes more sense to keep Sexton/Kessler, but this Dybantsa NIL stuff makes me think we’re more likely to trade Lauri and go for him.

Playing Sexton instead of Mills is anti tank, but so is having Sexton in general. I dislike this half measure of not trading him and also nuking any chance he has at improving his stance. And if we think he’ll fail at a bigger role, not exactly a tank killer either.

I would take a decent first for him over doing what we’re doing.

My hunch is that the ideal plan is to trade Clarkson at the deadline, put Cody in the starting line-up and move Sexton to 6th man. That may be impossible given Clarkson has tanked his value, Danny will want a FRP and I think the only way that happens is if bad salary is coming back.

I think the Jazz would let Clarkson go fairly cheap this year if their goal is to open more minutes for Cody and Brice. However, it's also somewhat up to Cody and Brice to prove that they deserve those minutes.

I do wonder if Lauri regrets his decision to sign late so that he can't be traded this year. It can't be very fun to play on a team that loses a lot of games, especially if we have a lot games like the GSW game. I 100% understand the draw of stability/controlling your own destiny. However, if Lauri gets traded at the deadline it's probably to a team that has a good chance at a deep playoff run with him on the team.

Yeah and I don't really know how far ahead DA plans this stuff tbh. He is opportunistic... well that has been my stance for a while. I could see either scenario happening but I think he will continue to wait until forced off his position by a good offer or other good opportunity... or if the tank starts to fail.

Well I said *unless* you get a haul. I didnt say it wouldnt ensure more losses, I just dont think it's needed. There will be enough losses regardless.
