2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Oh, I missed this particular defense of Sexton. Should we at least expect that Sexton could in those 4 seconds not completely lose his man steaking to the rim and then not miss Cody hopelessly signaling him that "Man, your man is running away right there, follow him!"? Or is it too much to ask our beloved defensive savant Sexton too?

It is pretty sad and pathetic when a rookie after several games has a better awareness of the defensive positioning and has to point out to the veteran his mistakes. But I guess I should just mindlessly stick to the oft-repeated statement of faith: "Sexton is really hustling on defense and has greatly improved his understanding of the game - it is only his 6' height that makes him a defensive liability".
What are you talking about? In those 4 seconds there was no lost man streaking toward the rim. Young chucked up a half court shot while sexton was guarding him (his man)
Maybe your goal here is to just get ignored by as many people as possible. idk.

Heat are going to want more than those two for Butler.

The Suns would have to pay way more than 1 first to get off Butler. Additional assets via the Suns would have to make it to Miami
Heat can want whatever they want but everyone knows they are desperate to get rid of butler, a 35 year old making 49 million (will make 52.4 million as a 36 year old) who also has some attitude issues and isn't considered a top 20 player in the nba. They may have to take what they can get.

Suns wouldn't be trying to get off Butler in this trade. They would be getting Butler from what I can tell.

The Heat havent really shown desperation. You dont suspend a player if you're desperate. Teams respect Riley. Butler is still a difference maker for any contender and wont just be a throw away. There should be a legitimate market to run the price up.

I mistyped Butler for Beal, obviously. The Suns would have to spend more than a single first to get Butler and get off Beal. That is an extremely gross underpay for Butler/getting off Beal.

Jimmy Butler isn't going anywhere to play as a second banana. In his mind he's always the alpha dog.

To bring in a guy like that in January is far from a simple operation. The teams where he wants to go already have their alpha dogs in place, and everyone knows Jimmy can and will stir up trouble if he's "unhappy".

He also refuses to play analytics-based, modern NBA basketball. Strictly a midrange and post-up guy. That means that on 95% of teams, you'd either turn your offense upside down to accommodate Jimmy or risk pissing him off. Good luck.

Beal would never agree to it
Not this year but he might next year IF the Phoenix situation is bad and he thinks he’s going to lose money by being **** on by his current team. He’s made a bajillion dollars so I’d think he has other preferences. He sounds like he has the right attitude and I think it’s a non starter… I’d place a call if I thought I could get that pick with him but I’m sure I’d know the answer.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say living in Utah while they tank isnt on his short list.

The suns don't have any additional assets to add to a trade but they are a prime location for Butler to go because they are reaching desperation.

What if the suns agreed to pay a hefty portion of Beals salary? In exchange the Jazz offered the Cleveland 2025 first as part of the package to Miami.

Essentially we give up a late first in a draft where 1sts aren't available. Miami gets 2 serviceable players and a 1st now. They lose their future first.

Beal won't agree to it unless there is something for him but the Suns benched him recently so things aren't necessarily pleasant in catcusville.

It's easy to shoot down Butler trades but there just aren't a lot of ways to make the math work.

I don't see teams lining up to pick him up for all the reasons Saint Cy mentioned. It's good analysis. But it misses all the reasons the Heat will be motivated to move on.

“Refuses to play analytics-based, modern basketball”

LMAO

There is a cost to Butler being a chotchski.

- 1.5 years and over $80 million left to pay on that salary.

A giant turd in the locker room constantly whining in the media.

Pat Riley is the ultimate mob boss GM and doesn't care. But the impact is being felt. And who will take Butler? It's a skimpy list.

Its not a limb and I acknowledged that its unlikely. If his ambitions are more money motivated though he may be willing to go to a non-contender to show out more. Detroit has been mentioned for many reasons. He still has so much time left on his deal this season it isn't likely much of a consideration is my guess. Right now he likely just want to ride out this season in Phoenix unless an awesome situation comes around. He's got kids and I'm not sure they are school age but moving in the middle of the season with a family sounds awful.

I don't think any player is moving their family anywhere in the middle of the season / schoolyear. They'll just stay in a hotel until they figure out what they want to do.
