2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

The 76rs are a team that needs to do something but they are very limited since they are over the 1st apron.

I also don't see the 76rs aging well with their current roster. Embid is constantly injured. George is old.

They seem more desperate than ever because their 2025 pick is top 2 protected so they have poor odds of keeping it.

Team needs appear to be a PF and an upgrade at backup guard. We have those!

Trader Danny has to have Daryl Moreys ring tone be jaws theme music... but what deals could we do?

Just sniffing around and it looks like they could trade their 2029 and 2031 picks. At that point, Paul George is 40 and getting paid big dollars.

Embid is 34 and on an expiring contract.

I actually think Sexton may be more valuable as an expiring next season. His skillset is exactly the 1 year rental type where you know you get the immediate scoring help but you dont want to take a risk of handicapping yourself for next year if he doesnt fit.

20M 6-1 combo guard with limited playmaking and defense isnt on the checklist of building the perfect contender and thus you probably want to "test the product" first. If he doesnt fit, that 2nd year for 20M carries a big opportunity cost (or you have to burn another asset to dump him).

Outside of their core, contenders want flexibility to retool on the fringes to find the correct combination. Im pretty sure Sexton is seen as a fringe guy. No one points at him saying thats the missing piece from our core.

I think you're spot on with the way Sexton is typecast. Whether that's fair or not, I think the Jazz have reinforced that perception of him. There are some guards who are small/bad defenders, but they are so good on offense they are still a premium commodity. Sexton was playing so well last year it made you think...from the outside looking in it doesn't really seem like Hardy is a believer.

As far as the financial situation, I could see it both ways. There are some teams (LAL and LAC are like this IIRC) who aren't going to be cap space teams next year but also likely don't want to re-sign their expiring guys. It could be appealing for those kind of teams because they don't have the ability to acquire someone with Sexton's salary next summer. But as expiring he likely opens up a new set of buyers....I'm just not sure anyone is dishing out solid first round picks for guys they are not so sure about.

We made two trades last year for very late/early second round picks. In a vacuum, I'd definitely say that Sexton is a better player than Simone, KO+Ochai ect....but how many teams desire Sexton more?

Another Sexton fake trade:

Sexton -> ORL
Bitzade -> SAC
Anthony -> UTA
Lyles -> UTA
Draft compensation from SAC -> UTA

I want us to move Sexton simply because I don’t see him on our next contending team. Plus, he, along with Clarkson and Collins, threatens our tank. Lots of games left. And tanking for the top guys in the draft will heat up after the trade deadline. We finally have an opportunity to draft a stud prospect. I want us to maximize our chances. If I were Danny and could find a trade partner, I would definitely trade Sexton (or Clarkson or Collins) in our situation.

Their ‘25 pick is top-6 protected, which means if they basically stay where they’re at for the rest of the season are likely to keep it. We can’t allow that since they can edge us back in the standings, and if they decide they WANT to lose games will succeed.

With Melton out for the season I saw Clarkson mentioned as a potential replacement target for Golden State.
The tank kinda needs him tho

I have absolutely no idea what this take could be based on.

When you're a 26 year old role player, well known around the league, your value doesn't really fluctuate in the short term anyway. It's mainly based on two things:

1) Your reputation as a player
2) Your contract situation

Sexton has been more or less the same player from the moment he first stepped on an NBA floor. Sure he's matured as a person, but all the same on-court strengths and weaknesses are still there.

Sexton is nobody's idea of a guy whose game is going to age well. He's entering the last phase of his career – probably 2-3 years – where he can still depend on his quickness. After that, he's done.
At the start of last year he had negative value very clearly. While we want to continue to point out his flaws he has made clear progress with many things and been fairly consistent and healthy. Midway through the year last year he was definitely positive. Now this ain’t Zillow but you can simply look at the trends from last year in his play and with better play comes better value (shocking I know). I know there aren’t any players that live up to your lofty standards but even you should throw a few worthless firsts in the 2025 draft out for him (since you don’t believe in the draft either).

If you can’t open up basketball reference and understand the progress Collin has made then don’t talk to me about basketball TIA.
