Yeah I mean that moving screen had no consequences cuz it was a non shooting foul lol. Y’all are acting like Sexton had time to do some full assessment of all the risks and potential routes to defend that last possession. Like with 4 seconds left (who knows if he got a good look at the clock after all he just did) he can sit back like we did and analyze what the best way is to turn a 10% OT probability into a 5% OT probability. He dropped back into a prevent position and with 4 seconds there are drawbacks and other potential pitfalls of pressuring the ball. The threshold for a foul there is not going to be tackling a guy. Maybe on a halftime mid court heave but not while the game is in the balance. He made an acceptable play and had seconds to make the decision.

Also, Young making this deepest three is no coincidence: for years he has been one of the players with the longest average 3-point distance. It is his specialty and he is really good at that. He shoots from the logo all the time. For him, it was not a desperation heave: it was a shot that he knows he is capable of making, the shot that he is probably practicing regularly.

Can you provide some data showing how often Young makes half courts shots and on how many attempts? Is it really his specialty? Is a half court shot a high percentage shot for him? If you are making these types of claims then you should show your work.

DAL has become a good Sexton/Clarkson destination due to their injuries. They've got Dinwiddie and he's playing well, but they're asking a lot from him.

There is a range of acceptable approaches to that last few seconds. Press up on your guy and he may push harder up the floor and he is like one of the best passers in the league... 4 seconds is an eternity. You may end up giving up a set shot or a pull up 30 footer which Trae is much better at shooting. Sexton took an appropriate approach in the chaos by simply getting back and keeping the play in front of him. A guy hit a half court runner... it happens.

In addition to fouling the guy 60-70 feet from the basket or getting in a guys enormous landing zone on a play like that. It wasn't perfect but it was just fine.

Kleber would be the main salary coming back and he is totally cooked, but I actually don't mind some longer bad salary. Expiring salary doesn't help us too much, so we can take on the extra salary burden for extra incentive.

I didn't realize he had one more year but that's fine. Between Will Hardy and that mountain air we take cooked players and make them uncooked. I could see us revitalizing him with some MLM snake oil and selling him off next year. I mean Patty was cooked and now he's basically Steph Curry. Okay... okay... maybe that was just one game.

Playing around with the Spotrac trade machine. We still have our taxpayer mid-level exception to play with. Let's say Milwaukee wants to make a move to drop below the second apron to save some money or make another trade (they could aggregate salaries then). We send the Cleveland 1st this year (we already have a roster crunch) take back Pat Connaughton and get the 2031 Milwaukee pick unprotected.

Well, I was wrong: I re-watched the tape and it was actually 2.9 seconds, which makes it a bit less than eternity when you inbound from under your own basket. It was a huge collective fail: no Atlanta players leaked out yet, they were all close to their basket but all Jazz players immediately ran to the midcourt like a herd of sheep ceding all space to the Hawks to operate freely. Then 3 Jazz players ended up trying to guard Capella, who has no 3-point shot and had no time to get close to the basket in those 2 seconds. Collier was celebrating and guarding no-one. Lauri was aimlessly backpedaling (instead of guarding the inbounder with his length). The only players who actually played meaningful defense on this final possession were Cody and Kessler, which is totally unsurprising.

Nobody tried to guard the inbound pass, nobody tried to get between the inbounder and Trae Young - and everybody knew HE will be getting the ball to either shoot or immediately pass to an open leaker. Just those two things would almost certainly burn a second off the clock and then Young would have just a second left to advance before he has to start his shooting motion. So, yeah, Sexton was wrong in not trying to slow down Trae but that was an example of a terrible team defense in general. It takes a village to be the worst defensive team in the league year after year.
