2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

If Collins is getting traded that means we get a 1st. And if we're taking on any players that likely mean more draft compensation. I feel like we're more interested in picks as we don't want to disrupt the tank. Any players we get back are going to be throw-ins to make the trade work, or perhaps one solid player if we move someone else with Collins who is a contributor. The tank must come first and we can't mess it up.

Starting to think that the time has come for swaps and 2nds.

Super swaps and seconds seem like sure things says Sober.
Synopsis: we should be exploring creative ways to acquire swap rights and either layering them (multi-team) or strengthening them (as in super swaps on years with multiple 1sts in-hand). I’ve got my eyes on the swap right SA has for Sacramento’s ‘31 pick (which could be traded in a multi-team with Sac’s consent) and Boston’s ‘28 pick (who would probably be happy to give those swap rights to Utah rather than SA).

The strategy of layering swaps is an interesting one as it lowers the theoretical asking price for each team whose swap rights are being acquired (as each additional team has a lower and lower chance of conveying anything at all in the end) while the team acquiring the rights keep raising the odds (and the ceiling) of receiving a higher pick.

If you negotiated with multiple teams at the same time in a multi-team, you could maybe get an optimal deal on multi-swap rights. Problem in dealing with SA is that they will both likely not be conveying a swap in the coming years and they seem to be the leaders of layering swap rights so they ain’t gonna be biting anyway.

In lieu of something (synchronous multi-team swap rights on the same pick) that is - to my knowledge - completely novel, a super swap would be awesome in years we have multiple 1sts. I’m just doubtful we’ll get anything from SA since they’d be buying and, again, the chance their pick is better in future years is unlikely.

I gotta stop.
