Better role players exist in the NBA that you'd get through trading. That would be dumb. There are tons of very good role players in this draft.

Shep has a lot of things going for him. Maybe he tops out as TJ McConnell with a jumper but he plays so far within his role on his team that its tough to get a read on other things he could be doing that may open up for him.The easiest way to tell if I a guy has the potential to be a star….well it’s the obvious ones. But the obvious ones are being drafted at the very top. After that, we have guys that look the part but aren’t very good and guys that are very good but don’t look the part. Everything in between, of course. When it comes to looking at who has high potential….I think we are wayyyy to tilted towards the first group.
Like I said, most for most great players, it was obvious. But there are still a lot of great players who weren’t the tallest, youngest, most athletic, insert any typical “high potential” attribute.
Yeah, but all these Kentucky guards who later flourished had scoring mentalities that were diminished in Kentucky as they tried to fit into loaded teams.Shep has a lot of things going for him. Also, Kentucky guard.

Maybe and maybe not. Odds are you aren't getting one though at a lower cost controlled price than hitting on a role player in the draft. What role players do you have in mind that could be available through a trade?Better role players exist in the NBA that you'd get through trading.
I disagree but haven't watched a ton. Shep may not be able to put up big numbers but he comes down and looks to get the ball to Rob and let him cook. He may just know himself but I don't see him running a ton of actions. Seems to get his in secondary stuff.Yeah, but all these Kentucky guards who later flourished had scoring mentalities that were diminished in Kentucky as they tried to fit into loaded teams.
I dont think Sheppard really fits the conventional "Kentucky Guard" thing.
Its like all things that are underrated when it comes to winning. May not end up being a "star" star but a role player "star" that just helps win. He's like 3 role players combined that I love. TJ's play making with Seth Curry's shooting and Pat Bev's defense. What does that all add up to? IDK, but he wouldn't be the first Kentucky player reduced to a smaller role when he could have done more. It's kind of a trap to compare draft prospects to unique players....but it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up FVVish. Shep is just extremely good at very important things.
