2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

I've been messing around on hoop-explorer.com. Great site, tons of info, janky interface I'm still getting used to. Here's a note on Sheppard with and without Dillingham:

With Dilly / Without Dilly

Total Possessions: 1401 / 1032
USG Rate: 16.2% / 24.2%
AST Rate: 20.8% / 27.2%
eFG%: 67.3% / 68.5%
FTr: 23.7% / 25.8%
TOV%: 21.6% / 19.3%

I'm not saying we should totally extrapolate his without Dilly numbers....but all of his numbers get better. At the very least, when it comes to projecting him in a higher usage role we can say he passed the test with flying colors last year.

Seriously, 24+ USG and 70%+ TS is INSANE.

I think we hashed over this before last season and I don’t feel like doing it again but if you’re a guaranteed top-5 pick or top-10 at worst you should declare for the draft. What if he got injured or didn’t play as well because his team will likely be **** around him? A lot of risk and not a lot of upside.

Not to mention the NIL money won’t be as much as what he makes annually as a rookie and (most importantly), the real key is to get to that second contract as quickly as possible. Another year of college kills that.

I still think it’s hilarious people seriously thought Reed was going to return to school.

What are the stories?

Keep in mind, these are just internet rumors and I may be remembering incorrectly....but Kentucky boosters have a rep of being crazy. One rumor was that the Kentucky alumni created a scheme to involve/seduce Rick Pitino into a sex scandal. I also think one of the boosters offered a highly rated recruit (Nerlens Noel maybe?) favors in return for commitment.

The recent story is about a Kentucky booster wanting to involve Oscar Tsibewe in their political campaign. Coach Cal told them to F off and they pulled all their money, that's why he's out of there.

I'm really honing in on Sheppard as the top guy in this draft. The more deep divey I get, the more I'm sold on him. I totally understand the concerns, but on paper he is a mega elite prospect. On paper =/= reality, but in this draft it's enough to put him #1 in my book.

I would be soooo happy with Sheppard. Could be the next Haliburton IMO. People are too worried about the translation, he's fantastic at the things that matter most.

The question with Sheppard is how far his off-the-dribble game can go. The shooting, defense, passing and toughness all pass muster. But can he be a primary guy with the ball?

It's a bit similar to the questions around Cason Wallace last year.

His play when Dillingham was off the court really puts me at ease. Definitely suggests he was being limited.
