2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Edey propaganda is getting to me. I think I might move him ahead of Dillingham in terms of "potentially elite offensive players with defensive question marks". Obviously there are a lot more shot creator types that are star offensive players than bigs...but Edey has some hope on defense at least.

Think both will probably be 20-25 minute players though.
I think he was solid but not spectacular in college... but he's too big not to have some sort of defensive utility imo... and he did what he did without picking up fouls.

I like guys that the harder you look at them the more you "see it". I think Zach is that type of guy.

I think Edey has defensive question marks. Dillingham has defensive liability certainties...

That's fair....I do think that people kind of dismiss the fact that Edey wasn't even the greatest rim protector. It's just that he has more obvious defensive question marks. I don't expect either to be a good defender and while that seems to be certainty for Rob, it's much more crushing to have a poor defensive C than guard.

Most bigs that are good were way more than solid at the college level....and while I'm not saying "he's just tall" being tall is certainly more impactful at the college level than the NBA.

I think his PnR finishing + offensive rebounding will be really freaking though. Defensively, his utility will probably come from securing the rebounds which is something people don't consider defense but should.

Yeah, being defensive liability as a center is much harder to make work, but I do think with Dillingham it's all but certain he will be bad defender... and not just bad... truly horrible is my expectation, while I think there is a chance Edey will be able to provide enough defensive value to make him a starting center with very high offensive potential.

The screening combined with the finishing could be fairly devastating. The switch everything likely doesn't work with him so you'll have to fight through it and he's a big physical mfer with a big resting catch radius (I just invented this).

Locked on Jazz today giving Cody Williams a hot stone massage.

Also, when Justin Zanik talks about not being able to teach size, that could apply to Williams and Salaun as well as Edey.

I could go either way. I really like Edey’s rebounding+finishing…but I am somewhat dubious about his post game and passing. There are only a few bigs in the NBA who are good enough to warrant getting post ups in the first place, and all of them have really good guard skills. Edey started late, so maybe he has the potential to improve a lot more, but I don’t love how slow his reads are and I just can’t imagine him putting the ball on the floor at his height.

Dillingham has a more natural path to being an elite offensive player imo. But I would agree he could be tragically bad.

I would also say that there’s probably more room for offense only guards than offense only bigs. Someone like Monk has more value than someone like John Collins, for example.

I think he can push the limits for just how good you can be as a screener/roll man/putback guy. OTOH, not convinced about his post game and obviously still concerned about his defense.
