What happened with Topic and why is everyone suddenly so low on him? I swear people were clamoring for the Jazz to pick him just a week or two ago. Is this about his injury?

Injury, his wingspan was reported as 7' and it measured like 6-6, and everyone heard how weird his voice is and bailed.

For me, it’s a worry that he may be injury prone and not wanting to relive Dante Exum. But I see the logic of sitting at 10 and taking him.

Freak out about going from having great wingspan to T-Rex. Bad knee (multiplies concerns about defense/athleticism).

it would be hard to be upset with a carter selection at 10 - he's too good in too many areas. that said, i'm not as bullish on him as most. i'm not sure i trust his shooting and i don't love his fit next to keyonte - makes for a really small backcourt. also, he's old. when he was the age of a lot of the guys he's up against, he averaged 9 ppg on 26% from three as a freshman - and he was actually older as a frosh than some of these OADs.

Good points. I worry less about Carter's shooting because his volume was so high and the difficulty level of the shots he took was high. Actually, one legitimate concern with him would be shot selection. I worry less about Carter's age because of his length and athleticism. I believe, but could be wrong, that most older guys fail in the NBA because of length and athleticism.

I have been flip-flopping on Topic for the past month. His shooting scares me. His medical history scares the poop out of me. His knee could be a blessing in disguise as it will force him into shooting for a while and not allow him to practice attacking the rim. I have seen players improve their shooting with knee injuries. It would also be a future pick as he probably would not see playing time next year.

I am not as concerned about his arm length because if his neck were a normal length he would probably have measured 6-4 and with a 6-6 wingspan that is just normal.

His defense is also a major concern.

So.. nothing about his actual game/play. I understand the worries about his injury, but the intense dislike of a potential pick of Topic seems kind of over the top to me..

those are all fair counterpoints, and reasons i'd be fine, even happy with him at 10.

Honestly, I think people would just think it's boring because he's going to miss a year. There are legitimate health concerns with that of course, but all of a sudden all these "concerns" came out that are completely unrelated to his wingspan or health.
