2024 NBA Free Agency Thread

Lol. The Spurs got an unprotected Timberwolves 2031 pick and a swap from the Kings. It was not that long ago that these were considered the worst managed franchises in the NBA by a mile. And they didn’t send anything that compromises their future.

The Spurs continue/have returned to run laps around the league.

Also based on this trade I can confirm John Collins ain’t going nowhere. DA would not attach anything robust enough to dump him. Not that we need to dump him at this point just think we can bury all the “maybe we can find someone that will take him for free”.

Spurs got the 2031 Wolves pick during the draft for giving them rights to Dillingham (+ additional swap).

I think for taking Harrison Barnes they got just 2031 swap with the Kings.

It does just punctuate to me that we absolutely should have waited on Collins. Barnes should be neutral value and they found a desperate team that paid a solid premium to take him.

For them it was just part of the cost of getting Demar. I dont think they dump him otherwise, but Bulls didnt want any salary back.

Another way to think about it is that Bulls actually dumped him and gave up that asset.

Exactly and Atlanta was deep in the tax and desperately needed someone to save them… it’s very similar to the Bulls conundrum but they could have just let Derozan walk… Atlanta needed a trade partner.

I forgot they already got the Wolves pick, I think that played at least a marginal role in Sacramento being open to trading the swap because it decreases the chance of anything actually conveying.

Still a fantastic move my San Antonio

True. But with Collins it was easier for Atlanta to argue age and upside than it was for Kings with Barnes.

It's always funny how we praise one team for a move we would flame the Jazz for.

Guarantee there would be a ton of people crying about adding Barnes and hurting the tank instead of praising getting a 2031 swap.
If the Jazz already had a 1A guy in Wemby, a treasure chest of high value other teams firsts, and clear long-term fits around our guy in Vassell then I can't see more than the always present vocal minority opposing this trade.

Hell people would be way less down on the Collins trade if we got an unprotected swap instead of sending out a second
