Last nights game was sloppy. Another positive streak was ended (last week byu missed a FG after 25 made in a row) as the BYU offense had their first turnover of the season..... and then had a couple more. In addition to the turnovers, BYU committed 10 penalties. Also, second week in a row that BYU didn't cover the spread. Biggest concern from last night was a serious looking injury to who is arguably BYU best defensive player. Jack Kelly. Kearns kid. If that injury is serious then he is HUGE loss. Dude was going to be a high nfl draft pick.
Despite the sloppy play it was an easy win that BYU dominated. So far this season I have felt that BYU has an amazing defense, amazing special teams, and very good coaches. I have been concerned about the offense and specifically the passing game. Lasts night went a long way to alleviating that concern. Bear looked extremely good running and throwing the ball. Career high 351 yards. Dropping dimes all over the place. He was fantastic.
2 streaks continued last night: BYU has now scored in 31 straight quarters of play. That is the longest streak in the country. And of course, 5-0.
I think next weeks game against AZ on the road will be a win. Then play Utah at home which will be a very very tough game but I will give BYU a slight edge in that one due to homefield. Then a bye week giving BYU 2 weeks to prepare for a very very good Iowa State team (currently ranked #14) on the road, followed by going to 11th ranked texas tech and then a very good TCU team in provo. Im hoping that BYU is 8-2 or 7-3 after that stretch. If so, they should have a good chance at winning the final 2 games (TCU and UCF) and finishing 10-2 or 9-3 and having a decent chance at playing for a conference championship. Or they fall apart and finish 7-5 lol (worst case scenario imo). I would be ok with an 8-4 season. Quite happy with 9-3. Ecstatic with 10-2.
