Still hard to compare their relative impact when we’re talking about Denver being a bottom-8 team without Jokic and OKC still being a top-8 team without SGA.

I really feel they should both win the MVP. I have no idea if the mechanism exists.

Considering that all of this **** is just made up anyway, they could easily make up the mechanism for it. Stockton and Malone shared the all star MVP, so why not?
 
I don’t think a single Denver starter could start on OKC. Meanwhile, OKC has several starters who’d be the #1 option for a joker-less Denver team even though joker would still be the #1 option ahead of SGA if he were to be on OKC.

I think we’re crazy underestimating joker’s imprint on the game.

Is it easier/better/more impressive/more important to be a floor raiser or a ceiling raiser, to be a guy that takes a 30 win team to a 50 win team, or a 50 win team to a 70 win team? (This is a philosophical question, I don't think there is a correct answer.)

That is tough to say. Someone posted some analysis about how many wins they were each worth to their respective teams and IIRC Jokic was worth something insane like 18 wins while SGA was worth just shy of 10, could be off by a couple on each of those. So if OKC could win 58 games without him, no 58-win team ever is an easy out in the 2nd round of the playoffs. But for Jokic, his team drops from what, 52 wins to 34 without him? They are competing at that point for a top lottery spot. This comparison just doesn't hold water.

Here’s the mechanism:

If the voting is within 5% margin, it triggers a binary question to eligible voters: “should the NBA award co-MVPs to ____ and ____”?

Even simpler, just put co-MVPs on the first ballot.

I think it is clearly the floor raiser. They have far and away the tougher assignments. They have the target on them at all times as every other team knows, as goes Jokic, so goes the entire Denver squad. So they have the most weight to lift. SGA rarely had the target squarely on his back as the opponents knew they had other players who could beat you. What is harder, making the cake or spreading the icing? Obviously you **** up the cake there is never going to be any icing to begin with.

SGA leads Jokic in win shares by the smallest of margins (16.7 to 16.4)
