2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

Anyone have a feel for how big a contract we can offer a FA without bungling resigning our guys?
We have max money to offer so long as we don't get hosed over with Walker. Long term you will have to start making some decisions.

I think Brooklyn/Washington could get wild on Watson so not sure we can actually get him in the 35M+ type range but he'd be the main convo I'd be trying to have.

If Walker signs a contract minute 1, does that tie up significant money for the Jazz or can they still significant money to sign players in the time between they have to match?

If Washington does outbid us for Watson hopeful that tames the Kessler market

I think the way to do it would be to start it at 40M+ and have it descend by 5%, so that it throws them over all the aprons this year unless they move other money. Maybe they work a sign and trade with you so they don't lose him for nothing or maybe you start a conversation on Braun or Johnson.

Rookie maxes start at 25% of the cap. The projected salary cap for 2026-27 is 166M.

So they would start at 41.5M. The current team can do 8% raises and new team 5% raises.

With 8% it ends up being 5/243M or around there.

With 5% it ends up being 5/229M or around there.

Thats a full max and not the 30% if they hit certain award thresholds.

If we agree to a deal with him we can just order the signings so we have the money. Walker can really mess up our cap plan though by signing an offer sheet with another team. His number then becomes the offer number and not the caphold.

I know @KqWIN doesn't think it can happen... but I would still try to get him to agree to a deal in the few days we have exclusive negotiating rights.

Other teams can only go to 4 years though.
