A Good Word on Cotton

Cotton is the highlighted material of my spotlights for this upcoming early season for sure. I think he will have problems scoring after a while since he is attack 1st type and he can be considered undersized even for PG spot. But he has the hops, wrist and enthusiast for the game which I am looking forward to watch.
Wrist? Is that slang for shooters touch?

My take is that Cotton makes the roster because Quin likes him.

Why does Quin like him? Trey should take note (he pushes the ball up the court; he plays very hard on defense if undersized). He also can make shots, though he has a tendency which Trey exhibits to an even greater degree to dribble too much and take too many bad shots, which results in a poor percentage.

Because you mentioned Mississippi State I assume you are trying to explain why Cy does not like Ben Dowset. How this explains that is a mystery to me, but if that is not what you are trying to explain then I find your comment even more confusing. Did you attach it to the wrong post?

I mentioned it because it was mentioned earlier in the post.

Well, before Dante's injury, I would have put his chances of making the roster at 7 in 10, maybe 8 in 10. Since Dante's injury, it seems more like 3 in 10.
Just the opposite, IMO. Jazz usually carry three PG's. Had Dante NOT been injured, those three would have been Exum, Burke and Neto. Now they'll likely carry 4, with Exum missing the entire season or at least most of it. Cotton will have a chance to impress.

Is there some sort of backlash against Cotton I'm unaware of? I love him as a 3rd PG and I think he has the potential to be a decent backup PG in this league, or at the very least a good sparkplug when the rest of the team doesn't have any energy that night (something that I might value more than other people...I seem to think energy and chemistry is more important than those who think talent alone is the best thing to have).

I don't know. Most fans on this board are supremely single minded and when they've decided to support one player it's usually against other players. I want all of our PG's to succeed and if they ALL turn out to be starters, then so be it. I like Cotton, I like his attitude coming off the bench and if he can turn into a regular rotation player, I am good with that.

"He seems to be firmly behind both Trey Burke and Raul Neto on Utah’s depth chart according to most observers"

People have observed Raul Neto? This opener, smh...

Well, I did read on another forum that someone observed Raul in a Walmart. Probably looked pretty smooth maneuvering that shopping cart.

I'll bet there are 5-10 people on Jazzfanz who could write better articles than most of what is posted on SC Hoops or any other Jazz site.

I think you are putting too much stock in rumors. It seems to me that Cotton has a greater chance of making the roster now that Dante is injured, not less. Your impressions of this whole situation are so different from mine, but soon we will see what actually happens. And as for the writer you linked to being looked on with disdain, as far as I know that is a Cy thing. If you haven't already noticed, Cy looks on most of the world with disdain so who cares about that?

I admit I am more likely to "see thru a glass darkly". Maybe see the glass half empty rather then half full. I sat down after I started this thread yesterday and tried to figure out why to sign a vet and let Cotton go, and why not to. I gave up after awhile. But, yeah, I was putting a lot of stock in rumors, because 4 guards have, in their turns, been tied by writers to the Jazz. It did feel like the "handwriting on the wall" so to speak.

If they never expressed any interest in looking for a vet to replace Exum for one year, it's a given that Cotton's chances improve, not grow worse. I can't argue with that at all.

replacing young talent with rent a vets is a thing of the past (for the jazz i hope)!!
